Choir Announcements 9/11/26
Music Minutes:
Students should have music minutes 1-17 complete.

eLearning Major Scale Assignment:
Many students sent videos and voice recordings of the major scale over the eLearning day. This assignment will be kept open (just like music minutes) for the remainder of the quarter.

Tuesday, October 13th:
The Fall Choir concert is on Tuesday October 13th at 6pm in the Sunnyside Auditorium. As part of the performing arts curriculum, the expectation is that all students attend and participate.

Hello everyone,

Students have been reviewing quarter notes, eighth notes, solfège syllables, and hand signs. We have also been working on building part singing skills through musical rounds, and concert repertoire.

October 13th, Fall Choir Concert
The first choir concert of the school year will be on Tuesday October 13th, at 6pm. As part of the performing arts curriculum, the expectation is that all choir members attend and participate. Students can access practice recordings and sheet music on their Choir Canvas page.

Sunnyside Singers
Auditions for afterschool choir, Sunnyside Singers, will continue Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:20-6pm. Students who are auditioning this week need to report to the choir room after school, with your audition packet signed by a parent/guardian. Students that have not signed up for an audition time outside of the choir room, but are interested in auditioning, should be prepared to audition between 5:30-6pm.

Music Minutes:
Students should have music minutes 1-9 complete. Students have unlimited attempts to answer the question correctly. Once a music minute assignment opens, the music minute will stay open until the end of the quarter. The expectation is that students complete the daily assigned music minute at the start of music class. Music minutes will be updated weekly in PowerSchool.

Students have done a great job these first few days! We have been working on part singing skills, as well as organizing students into voice parts for their first choir concert on Tuesday, October 13th at 6pm. Here are a few reminders and updates as we continue throughout the week.

Shirt order forms are due this Friday (8/21). The shirt order forms and online store has been sent out through email.

Music Minutes: Today, students completed their first Music Minute assignment. Each day, students will have a Music Minute to complete on their canvas course. A “Music Minute” is a one question quiz that is meant to take 60 seconds or less to complete. If your child answers the question wrong, they just need to try again until they get the question correct. The expectation is that students complete the music minute at the start of music class. However, music minutes will stay open all quarter once they are unlocked. Grades will be updated weekly in PowerSchool. By the end of this week, students should have completed music minutes 1-4.

Communication: There are three ways I will be communicating information with everyone.
1. Parents and students will receive a weekly email.
2. Parents can sign up for Remind text messages for weekly updates. To sign up, text to 81010.

Sunnyside Singers: Sunnyside Singers is an auditioned after school choir. It is completely separate from the 6th grade choir curriculum. This auditioned choir performs at the Veterans Day Programs, LSC Honor Choir Festival, and will have a guest performance spot at the Jeff Spring Show this school year. If your child is interested in auditioning, please fill out the audition packet and sign up for an audition time outside of the choir room. There are a limited number of spots in this auditioned group, but I always encourage students to audition because it builds great character! Audition packets can be found in the main office, or in the choir room. Auditions start next week on August 25th and will run for two weeks.

Now that his employment is officially board-approved, we are THRILLED to welcome Mr. Ashton Roman as our new choir teacher at Tecumseh Junior High School! Mr. Roman comes to us directly from Butler University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and was the recipient of the Jordan College of the Arts Scholarship, William Crawford Teaching Scholarship, and Butler University Academic Scholarship. Mr. Roman completed his student teaching at Lebanon High School (choir) and Perry Meridian High School (band). Yes, he not only sings but also plays the trumpet! Mr. Roman is a proud graduate of Pike High School, where he was the recipient of the John Phillip Sousa Award and the Nathaniel Jones Education Scholarship. He is very excited “to cultivate a love of music through connection and community” at TJHS. Our students in attendance will have a brief opportunity to meet and congratulate him at our upcoming Lafayette Jeff Youth Show Choir Camp on Friday, June 26. Join us in giving a warm Broncho welcome to Mr. Roman! ❤️🖤

Sunnyside Singers were the guest performers at the Jeff Choirs Spring Show tonight! They performed four songs by themselves, and one combined song with Varsity Singers and First Edition. Way to go Bronchos!
