Congratulations Shelby, our student spotlight!

This week's Student Spotlight is Shelby Curry!

Shelby is a Digital Media Design major studying at our Lafayette Campus. After graduating, Shelby plans to further her education as she feels that we should never stop learning. She will use her art to tell stories and as a tool to fighting stigmas surrounding mental illness and anxiety.

She appreciates the warm and inviting student body at SLCC. Shelby enjoys embracing diversity on campus and having great conversations with students and instructors. She is grateful that the faculty and staff around her genuinely care about the success of the students they guide.

We cannot wait to see what's next for you, Shelby!

The South Louisiana Community College Center for Minority Excellence will be hosting a "If These Streets Could Talk" series which will focus on creating a safe space for people to participate in dialogue that brings forth a purpose and a multitude of perspectives.

The first talk will take place virtually on June 10, 2020 at 6 p.m. and will focus on the social injustices of today's world as well as living while being black in America. Dr. Valin S. Jordan, Assistant Professor of Diversity Education at University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Founder of Yoga4SocialJustice will serve as the moderator.

This event is open to the entire SLCC family, but registration is required. Registration can be completed at https://forms.gle/29xUJYajbUkxrHAG6. The event link will be emailed once registration has been completed.
