The Upward Bound Program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a college preparatory academic enrichment program for qualifying high school students, ages 15-19, who share interest and aptitude for obtaining a college degree. Participation in the program allows students to enhance their abilities in order to achieve their full academic potential. Schools served in Acadiana are:

HS, Northside HS, Acadiana HS, Northwest HS, Opelousas HS, North Central HS, Abbeville HS, Jeanerette HS, Westgate HS, New Iberia HS, Beau Chene HS, Breaux Bridge HS, Cecilia HS, St. Martinville HS, Church Point HS, Franklin HS, and W. PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
-AFTER SCHOOL-
Students selected into the program will attend after school academic sessions - one hour of Math and one hour of English at their prospective high schools.The purpose of the after school program is to give students the support they need to achieve academically in their present school courses, to prepare them for the ACT (college entry exam) and ultimately, for college. Students will also receive personal, career and academic counseling.
-SATURDAY ENRICHMENT-
During the academic school year, Upward Bound students will also attend 7 Saturday sessions on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The sessions are from 10 am to 2 pm and consist of classes in English, Math, and Science. Transportation is also provided for all parishes with the exception of Lafayette Parish.
-SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS:
NON-RESIDENTIAL: Summers are a very exciting part of the Upward Bound experience! Freshman students participate in a 3 day component focusing on career exploration through an engaging project based approach to learning, team building, and goal setting. RESIDENTIAL: Sophomore and Junior students who meet approval will live on campus for a 6 week intensive academic enrichment program focusing on English, math, science, reading, counseling, and cultural enrichment classes. Field trips and internship opportunities are also a wonderful part of our summer program. Classes are engaging, hands-on, and lifelong friendships are often made through the unity and togetherness experienced within the summer program. BRIDGE SUMMER:
During the summer following high school graduation, all Upward Bound students that meet University admission requirements will be eligible to receive a scholarship worth approximately $6,000 to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Monies will go toward summer tuition, room and board, supplies and textbooks. Students will meet with Upward Bound counselors weekly to ease the transition into college as well as attend helpful workshops focusing on college assistance and success. Upward Bound will remain available following completion.

The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science Programs at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic temporary instructor to teach Spanish or French for our upcoming Summer 2026 Residential Program.
Our six-week summer program is designed to simulate the college experience while helping high school students strengthen their academic skills and prepare for success in the upcoming school year and beyond. Students participate in rigorous coursework, enrichment activities, and college and career readiness experiences.
Program Details:

Schedule: Monday through Thursday

The Upward Bound programs are searching for temporary Academic/Cultural Instructors for our Summer Residential Program. Anyone interested in applying should complete our brief interest form by clicking the link below. ⬇️
The Resident Advisor (RA) plays an important role in supporting the residential experience for Upward Bound students. RAs are responsible for supervising students in the residence hall, assisting with evening and recreational activities, and helping maintain a safe, respectful, and structured living environment. RAs also serve as mentors and role models while supporting program staff with student engagement, accountability, and overall student well-being during the program.
The Upward Bound Summer Residential Program will operate Monday through Thursday from June 8, 2026, through July 16, 2026. The students will check into the dormitory on Sunday, June 7, 2026. RAs are expected to reside in the residence hall during the program and assist with scheduled supervision and activities.

Who says you can’t have fun while learning? 👀 Our TRIO Upward Bound students enjoyed a successful Career and College Readiness workshop and college fair. They ended things on a high note as the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Philadelphia 76ers!! What a way to celebrate TRIO Day!! TRIO Works and our students are a testament to that!

Mr. Langhston has served diligently as an Upward Bound Math-Science Counselor, a Classic Upward Bound Counselor/Coordinator, and most recently as the Upward Bound III Project Director. His leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our students have made a lasting impact on our program.
His last day at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will be February 22, 2026.
Thank you, Mr. Langhston, for your work ethic, creativity, and steadfast dedication to our students and staff. You will truly be missed.

From exploring Chemistry & Candle Making 🧪🕯️, to designing gingerbread dorms 🏘️🍬, painting future college visions with Painting with a Twist 🎨, and flexing entrepreneurial creativity crafting wreaths 🌿💡 in our Career & College Readiness workshops — the energy was NEXT LEVEL!
We ended the day with a massive FAFSA + Financial Literacy event with the amazing Genius Potential 💰📚 — because planning for your future = power.
