A Community Paint for the Sandcastle Mural begins on October 26 at A’Boat Time in Sturgeon Bay:
The Door County community is invited to come have some fun with their fellow creatives and help paint an interactive sandcastle themed mural at A’Boat Time. The restaurant is located at 26 East Oak Street in Sturgeon Bay. Painters of all ages and experience levels are welcome to participate. Painting will take place from 10am until 2pm on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27. Be sure to wear paint friendly clothes or bring an apron to the event.
A’Boat Time owners, Steve Homan and Danielle Hall, have partnered with local artists Lauren Thistle and Marie Kimball Creative to add to the growing number of public art works now visable in Sturgeon Bay.
Marie Kimball is thrilled to have helped design and facillitate the installation of the new mural. She says, “It continues to amaze me how something as simple as a coat of paint, can shift a person’s whole outlook in a really powerful way. Public art is a great way to deveolp pride in place through the creation of dynamic and interactive environments. The bright colors can positively impact mental health, warm colors can help mitigate the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and elevate a person’s mood.”
When asked why he wanted to add public art to the outside wall of his business, owner Steve Homan replied, “A’Boat TIme is a colorful restaurant and we want to share that vibrance with the community. The interactive art is not only fun to see when you drive by, it also expands the fun-filled atmosphere we want to create for all of our guests when they visit.”
A’Boat Time restaurant is located at 26 East Oak Street in Sturgeon Bay. The mural will be installed on the wall that faces S Madison Ave. This wall shares an alleyway with ARTicipation Studio & Gallery and Pinky Promise Coffee Roasters.
