Dear Wildcat Families,
School is right around the corner and we can’t wait to have our students back on campus! Here are a few suggestions and some important reminders of what needs to be done before that happy first day of school.
Registration and Immunizations - ESSENTIAL
Both new and returning families, please log on to http://www.reghub.org/ and complete the three steps by Monday, August 2nd. Students without updated information and completed registrations will not be able to pick up their schedules so be sure to do this by the deadline.
Students must also have up-to-date immunization records before they can receive their schedule and attend school. If you have any questions about your child’s immunization status, please review the immunization requirements athttps://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-231.pdf, visit www.shotsforschool.org, contact your child’s physician, and/or contact our school nurse at [email protected].
Wildcat Days/Orientation
We are launching a new plan for Wildcat Days and hope you all find this easier than you have in years past. During the allotted times, your child will be able to pick up their full schedule and have their picture taken. Please enter the parking lot on School Street and follow the directions of our staff. Prior to arriving, make sure you have completed the registration process, have uploaded all of the 7th grade immunization documentation, and bring a piece of paper with your child’s name clearly written out. Holding up this paper will allow our team to get you in and out quickly.
7th Grade - Thursday, August 5th from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
8th Grade - Friday, August 6th from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
MugsyClicks will be photographing our students again this year, and you can visit their website (https://mugsyclicks.com/StanleyMiddleSchool) to create an account and review and order portraits (when they become available). You don’t need to pre-order for your child to be photographed, but make sure they bring a smile!
Orientation on Saturday, August 7th is for incoming 6th grade students and any 7th or 8th graders new to the district. You should already have signed your child up for a 45-minute orientation time, but if you have not, please be sure you do so here by Monday, August 2nd. We will greet our new students at the flagpole in the main parking lot. This event is for students only. Hard as it may be, we ask that you please drop your child off with a mask and let us take it from there - we know it is a big first step, but we promise to take good care of them!
First Day of School
Monday, August 9th will be a wonderful day for all of us and we would love to have all our students ready to learn and in their seats by 8:15 a.m. Please help us out by making sure you leave extra time for traffic or last minute issues. With a return to full, in-person instruction, traffic will increase so consider having your child walk, bike, or bus to campus. Buses are running again and you can find more information regarding routes and fares here - https://sms-lafsd-ca.schoolloop.com/schoolbus. If driving is necessary, many families find it easier to drop off several blocks away from school and then have students walk the rest of the way. We are grateful to have crossing guards on duty and expect that everyone will be safe, respectful, and follow the rules of the road. If you do drive to campus, help us protect our environment by not idling your engines and remember that safety always comes first, so be careful and keep an extra eye open.
Students will be asked to go directly to their first period classes when they arrive on campus and we want to make sure they are not feeling rushed or overly anxious. Remind them that there will be friendly faces here who will be ready to help them find their way to class and navigate the campus. What to Bring
Device - As I mentioned in my previous letter, all students will be issued a school Chromebook which they should fully charge and bring with them each day. New students will have devices checked out to them during the first few days of school. Many thanks for your donations to LPIE (https://www.lpie.org/donate-online) which made our 1:1 Chromebook program possible.
Planner - We encourage all students to have a system for organizing their work each day, and have linked a printable template to our website - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-nWJUeKIjYc8tUPMm9QojnDW8zAX1nvI/view. Start with a few weeks of this format if your child does not already have a successful system.
Food - We will be offering lunch service through Choice Lunch (https://sms-lafsd-ca.schoolloop.com/ChoiceLunch) and have systems in place to support those in need of financial assistance.
PE Jersey - For returning students, remember to wash your PE jersey and have it ready to go. New students may wear everyday clothes until their jerseys arrive, which should be within a few weeks. It really helps if students wear sneakers to school so they do not have to carry shoes for PE.
Supplies - Your donations to LPIE also help us provide students with the supplies that they will need for an amazing educational experience. Because of this generosity, there is not a supply list of things you need to purchase for your student.
Backpacks - Backpacks are always a personal choice but we highly recommend something smaller to deter students from carrying too much. Teachers are committed to decreasing what they are asking students to carry each day and regular backpack clean-outs can help establish healthy habits. Our PTA hosts a backpack hospital for those in great need of support and our counselors can also assist those students who need a better organizational system.
Health and Safety
To keep our school community safe, and in compliance with the latest guidance from the California Department of Public Health, we will continue to require that all students and staff wear masks while indoors. We will maintain cleaning protocols and provide opportunities throughout the day for hand sanitizing. Although we will no longer be using the Frontline Screener, we implore you to do your part by keeping your child home if they are not feeling well or if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID.
For now, we will continue to utilize Zoom for all meetings and large gatherings and will not be allowing anyone but students and staff on campus. If it is essential that you come on campus to drop something off, the front office will have window service available from 8:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m. All that said, we are still here to help and welcome you to call 925-927-3530 between 8-4 p.m.
