From GLCA student to 5th grade teacher! 🍎

Kennedy attended GLCA’s Education Professions program during the 2021–2022 school year, where she gained hands-on experience working with students and began building the skills she now uses in her own classroom.

Today, Kennedy is a 5th grade teacher at Mintonye Elementary!

🌟 LEVEL UP Student Spotlight: Tyler McKinney!

Tyler, a senior from Lafayette Jefferson High School, has quickly become a leader in our Construction Trades program.

Nominated by instructor Matt Overmeyer, Tyler comes ready to learn, puts in the work, and is always willing to step up and help his classmates.

His teamwork and initiative are a great example of what it means to put Career Ready skills into action.

As part of our Criminal Justice team, Keene knows that learning doesn’t stop once you’ve entered the workforce.

His career skill is Lifelong Learning — continuing to learn, grow, and use those experiences to help others. For Keene, one of the most rewarding parts is passing along what he’s learned and seeing his students enter the workforce excited about their own careers.

As on of our Medical Assisting (CCMA) instructors, Kelsey knows that both healthcare and teaching require being ready to adjust when things don’t go as planned.

Her career skill is Adaptability — reassessing the situation, adjusting the plan, and staying calm and professional when needs or priorities change.

That ability to adapt while continuing to move forward is an important part of being Career Ready!

🔥 Safety in Action at GLCA! 🧯

The County Safety Task Force recently met at GLCA, bringing local safety professionals together right here on our campus.

The meeting wrapped up with a hands-on fire extinguisher safety demonstration, and our Criminal Justice students had the opportunity to get involved and put those skills into practice.

Experiences like this give our students the chance to learn alongside professionals, build practical skills, and make connections between the classroom and the careers they’re preparing to enter.

Hands-on learning. Real-world skills. Career Ready. 💪

For Rocky, mentorship means remembering the people and experiences that helped you get where you are—and making sure you reach back to help someone else along the way.

That mindset is especially powerful in a career like barbering, where skills, knowledge, and experience are often passed from one professional to the next.

For Melynda Bryant, communication is about more than simply talking — it’s about making genuine connections.

As one of our Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) instructors, Melynda has seen how listening and connecting with others can build relationships, help advocate for patients and students, and make a meaningful impact.

Those same communication skills are an important part of preparing our students to be Career Ready. 🩺

Sema'j, a senior from McCutcheon High School in our Criminal Justice program, is starting the year strong!

Nominated by Mr. Downard, Sema'j has stood out for his teamwork and initiative. He's quick to volunteer for demonstrations, get involved, and help his classmates during lab exercises.

Those are the kinds of skills that go beyond the classroom and help prepare students for whatever comes next.
