Pye Elementary school is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by ensuring that “college and career readiness begins at elementary”. We are located in the heart of one of the fastest growing districts in South Carolina. We serve a diverse population of 856 students enrolled in our 4-K through 5th grade.

Our staffing is consistent in response to increasing enrollment with a current total of 110 instructional and support. All instructional staff meet the qualifications for certification as highly qualified teachers. At JPES, we stand on a promise to provide all children with high quality curriculum, planning, teachers, instruction, learning, and time in every classroom, for every child, on every day. We accept the charge to acknowledge the needs of a new culture of digital learners and prepare them as 21st century learners to become 21st century leaders with the 4C’s skillsets (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity). We are a STEAM-minded school that promotes integration of the arts and sciences through writing across the curriculum. We are proud of our accomplishments of earning the national designation as a P21 Exemplar School by the Partners in 21st Century Learning as well as being named a Palmetto’s Finest school.

Wednesday Walkback

💙🐾 Blue Day brought a VERY special visitor to 4K! 🐾💙

During Colors Week, Pete the Cat came to visit us for Blue Day! But there was just one problem… Pete needed a little help finding his way around our school! 😱🐱

Luckily, Pete left notes and clues all around the school for our 4K students. We went on a big Pete the Cat hunt, following his clues while learning where important places are in our school! 🔎🏫 Along the way, we explored and became more familiar with our school building.

After a LONG search, we made our way back to our classrooms and were so relieved and surprised to find Pete waiting for us! 🎉🐱💙

What a fun way to celebrate Blue Day, explore our school, and make a special 4K memory! 💙🐾

🍦☀️ A COOL TREAT FOR THE COOLEST CREW! 💙

One of the hottest days of the year called for something sweet to celebrate our teachers and staff making it through our first full week of school! 🙌🏾🍨

Long before our Explorers arrived, our team was planning, preparing, and transforming classrooms into learning spaces where students can grow, explore, and get BETTER every day. 🧭✨ Today was a small way to say THANK YOU for the energy, flexibility, and love they’ve poured into a great start to the year!

Dorchester School District Two is an ᴇʟᴇᴀʀɴɪɴɢ ᴅɪꜱᴛʀɪᴄᴛ, which means being ready to learn can sometimes look like taking the classroom online during inclement weather or other extenuating events that require us to safely continue learning from home! 🌐📚

Today, students in Ms. Cheatham’s 5th grade class participated in our district’s ᴍᴏᴄᴋ ᴇʟᴇᴀʀɴɪɴɢ ᴅᴀʏ, practicing how to access assignments, navigate digital platforms, communicate with their teacher, and keep the learning going—even when they aren’t physically in the classroom. 💻🧠

Because when an eLearning Day is declared, we don’t want our Explorers wondering, “What do I do?” 🤔 We want them confidently saying, “ɪ’ᴠᴇ ɢᴏᴛ ᴛʜɪꜱ!” 🙌🏾💙

It’s all part of our ᴊᴏᴜʀɴᴇʏ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇᴛᴛᴇʀ—building independence, practicing before we need it, and preparing our students to be successful learners wherever the journey takes them. 🧭🛣️

We could have held a traditional town hall and talked about rules and expectations… but where’s the fun in that?! 😏

At Pye, “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗘,” so our Explorers got to EXPERIENCE what it means to get 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥! 🙌🏽

⭕ 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 #𝟭: Stay connected. Work together. Try it once…then try it AGAIN. And guess what? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥!👏🏽 That’s the lesson: we may not get it right the first time, but when we practice, adjust, and keep going, 𝗪𝗘 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥. 💪🏽

🎈 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 #𝟮: Trust your partner. Communicate. Encourage. Work together. Our competitors had to rely on each other to complete the challenge, and our audience had an important job, too!

Our Explorers put our QUEST skill 𝗨 — 𝗨𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 into ACTION by cheering for their classmates, encouraging them through the challenge, and celebrating their success. 🥳💙

And THAT is Capturing Kids’ Hearts in action, too! ❤️ Through 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗘 in the EXCEL model, we’re creating opportunities for students to talk, listen, encourage, connect, and learn with one another—not just from us.

We laughed. 😂

And most importantly… WE GOT BETTER! 🚗💨

A name. A smile. A warm “𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴!” And a hug. 🤗💙

It may look like a small moment, but we know little 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 🫶🏾

As part of our Capturing Kids’ Hearts 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗘𝗟 model, we 𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗚𝗘 by intentionally greeting students and making sure they know, from the moment they walk through the door:

But we especially love what’s happening in 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺. She’s not the only one building the culture! Her students are taking an active role as classroom greeters, practicing leadership, kindness, confidence, and connection with one another. 🥹💙

That’s how you build a classroom community.
That’s how you develop character.
And that’s how our students live, “The QUEST begins with ME! 🧭🌎”

🏗️ TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK! 🤝✨

Mrs. Hayden’s 5th graders put their teamwork, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills to the test this week!

Their challenge? Build the tallest tower possible using only 20 index cards and tape… in just 10 MINUTES! ⏱️📚

Students had to communicate, share ideas, make decisions, problem solve, and work together to create a structure that would stand on its own. And when the timer went off, the challenge wasn’t necessarily over! Some teams had to think quickly and make adjustments to keep their towers standing. 🙌

Afterward, we reflected on what worked, what didn’t, and how the lessons we learned from this activity can help us with future projects and activities that require teamwork and collaboration.

Sometimes the best learning happens when we’re given a challenge, a few simple materials, and a chance to figure it out TOGETHER! ❤️📖
