🍂 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🎃

Did you know Halloween has Catholic roots?

Halloween comes from All Hallows’ Eve, meaning the evening before All Saints’ Day on November 1. “Hallow” means “holy” or “saint.”

All Saints’ Day began as a Christian feast honoring all the saints—both those recognized by the Church and those known only to God. In the early Church, Christians remembered martyrs on the anniversaries of their deaths, celebrating their entrance into eternal life. By the eighth century, Pope Gregory III established November 1 as a feast for all the saints, and Pope Gregory IV later extended it throughout the Church.

The following day, All Souls’ Day, is dedicated to praying for the faithful departed. Together, these days invite us to remember the saints, honor loved ones, and reflect on the hope of eternal life.

Today, Halloween is known for costumes, pumpkins, and candy—but its name and history are connected to a much older Christian tradition!

🌿 This Week’s Virtue: Courtesy

At Holy Trinity Catholic School, we believe that practicing virtue begins with the little things we do each day. This week, our students are learning about Courtesy, also known as politeness.

🌿 WHAT IS COURTESY?

Courtesy means treating others with kindness and respect, recognizing that every person is made in God’s image and likeness.

🍃 COURTESY LOOKS LIKE:

* Letting someone else go first
* Listening patiently while others speak
* Looking at someone when they are talking to you
* Holding the door open for another person
* Picking up something someone has dropped

💬 COURTESY SOUNDS LIKE:

* “You can go ahead of me.”
* “You can ask your question first.”
* “I’m listening.”
* “Let me hold the door for you.”
* “Here, let me help you!”
* “Please” and “Thank you!”

🙏 PRAYER FOR COURTESY

Dear Jesus, help me to treat others with kindness and respect. Guide my words, actions, and manners so that I may show Your love to everyone I meet. Amen.

Our students will begin their TimberNook adventures, where outdoor exploration, imaginative play, and hands-on experiences encourage the love of nature!

🔤 Preschool

🙏 Faith & Virtue: Learning about Our Lady of the Rosary, practicing reverence during church visits, and exploring the weekly virtue.

📚 Academics: Recognizing and forming letters of the alphabet , practicing letter sounds, and strengthening counting skills through songs.

🎨 Hands-On Learning: Developing fine-motor skills through coloring, cutting, gluing, and creative activities.

🔤 Kindergarten–Grade 2

🙏 Faith & Virtue: Exploring the weekly virtue through related stories and reflecting.

📚 Academics: Kindergarten practiced the letters and numbers while older students strengthened addition, telling time, skip counting, and place-value skills.

🌿 Hands-On Learning: Practicing math through manipulatives and games, enjoying read-alouds, and bringing stories to life through acting and storytelling.

🔤 Upper Elementary

🙏 Faith & Virtue: Exploring Scripture through The Golden Bible and reflecting on virtues using Secure in Grace.

📚 Academics: Strengthening grammar, spelling, editing, and parts of speech while building mental math skills in multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.

🌿 Literature & Learning: Reading Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder, exploring the author’s life and the themes of family, courage, and perseverance.

Did You Know?

This October marks the 100th anniversary of Winnie-the-Pooh! 📖

In celebration of this beloved children’s classic, our students at Holy Trinity have been enjoying the wonderful stories of Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends.

But did you know that New Hampshire has its very own Winnie-the-Pooh Walking Trail? 🌳

Tucked away in Barrington, NH, this charming woodland trail looks like the perfect afternoon adventure for families! With special stops along the way inspired by Winnie-the-Pooh, it’s a lovely opportunity to bring the stories our students have been reading to life.

🍃 Planning a Visit? Here’s What to Know!

📍 Location: Goodwill Conservation Area, off Route 9 (Franklin Pierce Highway), Barrington, NH

🥾 Distance: Approximately 0.8-mile loop

⏰ Time: About 20–45 minutes

🌲 Difficulty: Easy, with some roots and rocks along the path. Not stroller-friendly.

🚗 Cost: Free admission and parking!

🌿 THIS WEEK’S VIRTUE: TRUSTWORTHINESS

Each week at Holy Trinity, our students focus on a virtue that helps them grow in character, faith, and their relationships with others.

What is Trustworthiness?
Trustworthiness means acting in a way that inspires confidence and trust — being honest, reliable, and someone others can count on.

🌿 Trustworthiness Looks Like:
• Keeping a promise you made to a friend
• Completing your chores or schoolwork without being reminded
• Returning something you borrowed
• Telling the truth, even when you might get in trouble
• Keeping someone’s personal story private instead of sharing it with others
• Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching

💬 Trustworthiness Sounds Like:
• “I said I would help, and I will.”
• “You can count on me.”
• “I’m sorry. I made a mistake, and I want to tell the truth.”
• “I promised I wouldn’t share that.”
• “Let’s not talk about them when they’re not here.”

🍃 LOOKING AHEAD AT HOLY TRINITY 🍃

We have another wonderful week ahead at Holy Trinity! Here’s a look at what’s happening this week, along with a few important October dates for our families to keep in mind.

📸 PICTURE DAY — MONDAY, OCTOBER 6

All Holy Trinity students are invited to join us at school for our professional Student Picture Day from 9:00–10:00 AM.

Students should wear their school uniforms for pictures. Photos are optional, and copies will be available for families to order.

🍂 IMPORTANT OCTOBER DATES

🍎 October 9 — No School | Diocesan Required Professional Development Day

🍂 October 12 — No School | Columbus Day

🍝 October 15 — Family “Fun”draiser Spaghetti Supper | 5:00–6:30 PM

🎭 October 21–22 — The Commedia: Pinocchio Field Trip to the Winnipesaukee Playhouse

🎃 October 24- Pumpkin Fest: Holy Trinity students will have their pumpkins displayed and we will have a table set up at the event , selling hot soup , snacks and getting the word out in the community about our school !
