Dear La Vernia ISD Community,
I hope this message finds you and your family safe and healthy. I am reaching out to share our plans for the remainder of this school year. Before I begin, I want you to know that though the COVID-19 pandemic has created uncertainty for many of us, you can be sure that LVISD remains steadfast in our dedication to supporting you, our students, our staff, and our community.
As you may have heard, Governor Greg Abbott announced today that public schools in Texas are not to return to face-to-face classroom instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19 concerns. This means that La Vernia ISD will continue with our Distance Learning Program through May 22, 2020, the last day of school on our current calendar. We will also continue to evaluate and seek guidance from local and state officials regarding our plans for Class of 2020 commencement exercises. We are committed to celebrating our graduating Seniors and updates about this important ceremony will be shared with you as soon as possible.
Given the severity of the threat COVID-19 poses to the health of our communities, it is clear to me that the Governor’s decision is in the best interest of our students, families, and staff. Our instructional teams will continue to prioritize the growth and learning of our students. Distance Learning coursework will continue to be available on our website (https://www.lvisd.org/Page/3635), and you can always reach out to us for help at [email protected]. While we recognize that this system is not perfect, we believe it will allow us to successfully complete this school year while planning for next year. We will also continue to post any updates about how our district is responding to the COVID-19 situation on our Critical Updates page (https://www.lvisd.org/Page/3634).
We deeply appreciate the support and grace you continue to give to our teachers, staff, and leaders as we collectively take on the challenges of this unprecedented season in the life of our great district. We miss you and look forward to being together again soon.
Sincerely,
Dr. Hensley Cone
