Dear Bulldog Nation,

Welcome to the start of an exciting new athletic season! Tomorrow night, Friday, August 28, 2026, marks the official opening game for our La Pryor High School Varsity Football team as we host New Braunfels Christian Academy right here at home at 7:00 PM. There is nothing quite like the energy of Friday Night Lights, and I know our players, cheerleaders, band members, and coaches have put in countless hours of hard work to prepare for a fantastic season.

As we gather to cheer on our Maroon and White, we want to ensure that every game is a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for all of our students, families, and guests. To help us achieve this, please take a moment to review important venue policies and state regulatory updates for the upcoming school year.

Let's fill the stands, bring our pride, and support our Bulldogs with positive spirit and enthusiasm! Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school environment safe, respectful, and spirited.

La Pryor ISD Names Dr. Dwight McHazlett as Interim Superintendent

La Pryor ISD is proud to announce that Dr. Dwight “Buster” McHazlett Jr. has been named Interim Superintendent. For Dr. McHazlett, a proud graduate of La Pryor High School, this appointment brings his career in education full circle - returning to the very district where he began as a classroom teacher and later served as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Throughout his distinguished career in Texas public education, Dr. McHazlett has served as a teacher, coach, high school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. His dedication to instructional excellence was recognized at the state level when he was named the Air Force Association’s Texas State-Wide Teacher of the Year.

Dr. McHazlett earned his Doctor of Education from Texas A&M University in 2015. He and his wife, also a former La Pryor teacher, are the proud parents of two sons who are now college graduates working professionally. Prior to stepping into the Interim Superintendent role, Dr. McHazlett served as president of the inaugural LPISD Education Foundation.

This week we welcomed back our Bulldogs and it felt great to have our halls and buildings full of learners!

Last week, before school started, we held a ribbon cutting for our new Career & Technical Education building and Elementary Classroom building. This event marked a major milestone in the bond project we started planning 3 years ago! On May 4th, 2024 our community voted to support our district's needs for facilities, and we couldn't be more grateful.

We're thankful for the many hands who helped us get here, from assessing, planning, designing, building, to every single hour spent bringing these new spaces to life. These new buildings will empower our learners for many years to come, and we are so proud to call this community our home!
