Accessible only by ferry, boat or plane, Madeline Island has an a

rt and craft tradition that dates back more than three hundred years during which time three different flags have flown on her shores. MISA is situated on a peaceful, prairie meadow farm, on an Island that is unrivaled with its breathtaking views of sea caves, beaches, and clear blue waters with bright skies. It is a location that provides tranquility to awaken the creative spirit. The beauty of this natural environment, with its quaint, village atmosphere provides indescribably perfect settings for painters, photographers, writers and other creative enthusiasts. Complementing this setting are spacious studios with an abundance of natural light, comfortable lodging and delicious meals. Our classes are taught by nationally recognized teachers and are held between May and October. The school offers week long workshops in writing, painting, quilting, photography, and other genres. There is no standing faculty - instructors and students come to the school for the duration of their session. The variety of classes offered is extensive. Workshops are designed for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students, with the majority of the classes welcoming all three.

CAPTURE THE MOMENT IN WATERCOLOR
with Geoff Allen | Madeline Island Campus
August 9 - 13, 2027

There’s something magical about painting outdoors - watching the light shift, the colors change, and a scene come alive before you. In Capturing the Moment in Watercolor, you’ll learn how to capture that feeling quickly, loosely, and with confidence.

Geoff Allen will guide you through watercolor techniques designed to speed up your process, loosen you up, and help you “keep it fresh.” Start in the studio with skill-building exercises and demonstrations, then take your paints outdoors to experience the beauty of Madeline Island en plein air.

Explore the four essential watercolor skills - values, shapes, color, and mark making - while learning how to simplify what you see, strengthen your compositions, and create atmosphere and expression.

Whether you’re beginning your watercolor journey or looking to loosen up your approach, this workshop is all about seeing, simplifying, and capturing the moment.

Come paint the island, embrace the moment, and let your watercolor breathe. Registration link in MISA’s bio.

It may be tucked inside an old report card. Lingering in a familiar scent. Waiting in a pair of gardening gloves, a forgotten photograph, or an object you’ve carried with you for years.
