🚌 School is back in session this week! Help keep our students safe on the road.
As school buses return to roads across Charles County, remember to slow down, stay alert, and always stop for school buses.
🟡 Flashing yellow lights: Slow down and prepare to stop.
🔴 Flashing red lights + stop arm: Stop at least 20 feet from the bus.
🛑 Stay stopped until the stop arm is retracted, the red lights stop flashing, and the bus begins moving again.
Drivers traveling in the same direction as a school bus must always stop. Drivers approaching from the opposite direction must also stop unless the roadway is divided by a physical median barrier. Never use the shoulder to pass a stopped school bus.
Back-to-school also means there may be new student drivers on the road navigating their school commute. Give them a little extra space and patience, too. Be kind out there! 💛
Give yourself extra time, stay focused, and watch carefully for children walking or crossing near bus stops. A few extra minutes of patience can help keep everyone safe. 🚌
