This summer, Biola University launched its first ever Summer Engineering Camp for high school students, drawing an inaugural cohort from as far as Washington state to local counties across Southern California!

Taught by Biola School of Science, Technology and Health engineering faculty and student mentors, campers learned industry standard tools like SolidWorks and 3D printing to design and fabricate their own automaton, all in the span of a week.

Many had never touched engineering before camp and left proud to showcase their finished builds on the last day.

Beyond the lab, students got a taste of college life too, staying overnight in the dorms and heading out on excursions to the beach and other activities around Southern California!

This month, the School of Science, Technology and Health welcomed two groups of high schoolers (grades 9-12) to campus for a five-day Molecular Biology Summer Camp! Across both sessions, students got hands-on with real lab techniques used by working scientists, including DNA extraction, PCR analysis, protein gel electrophoresis, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and Western blot analysis. They even heard from a guest faculty speaker on molecular biology.

From pipette practice on day one to analyzing their own results by day five, campers left with more than a certificate. They left with a real taste of what it means to do science.

"From Augustine to C.S. Lewis, Christian authors have recognized that we hold a unique position as pilgrim citizens of heaven who must live and work in the cities of man on earth. How we live and serve here matters." — Matt Van Hook, director of the PPE program

Biola University is launching a Bachelor of Arts in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics — a first-of-its-kind program for Christian students called to lead in law, public policy, government, military service, education and beyond.

The program, housed in the new School of Arts and Letters, pairs rigorous interdisciplinary coursework with deep biblical integration. Courses range from foreign policy and national security strategy to church and state relations, culminating in a capstone called Statecraft and the Christian.

Van Hook is a retired Air Force pilot, former Air Force Academy professor and veteran mentor who has guided students into top law schools, competitive scholarships and nationally recognized internship programs including the John Jay Institute and the Hertog Summer Political Studies Program.

Biola is one of only a handful of Christian institutions offering a degree of this nature. The program is now recruiting its first class for fall 2027, including first-year students, transfers and current Biola students interested in declaring the major.

K-dramas and K-pop are more than entertainment, they're windows into culture, faith and the human experience!

Torrey Honors College professor Dr. Jane Kim invited scholars from across Biola to explore what Korean storytelling reveals about society and faith in the "Through the Lens of K-Drama" video series.

Here from faculty contributors in this recent live panel discussion and an interactive Korean literature exhibit, organized by students in Kim's Korean Literature class.
