Attention nursing alumni: It is that time of year again when Anne Gewe is looking for volunteers to "adopt" a first-semester clinical nursing student!

Adopt a Student Initiative

The goal is simple: Nursing school is challenging, and we want to encourage our students, especially during their first semester.

The commitment involves:

Praying for a Biola nursing student weekly.

Emailing the student once a month to offer encouragement and let them know you are praying for their success.

Students are in their first semester. Anne lets students take the initiative in communication. Some relationships consist of brief email updates, while others grow into deeper conversations about family, career goals, and prayer requests. While mentors and students may never meet in person, alumni often answer vocational questions or offer helpful contacts. Some connections last beyond the first semester, while others wrap up after term ends. Both outcomes are wonderful!

How to Participate:

If you would like to volunteer, please email Anne Gewe at [email protected] with the following details:

Email address

Year graduated from Biola (or degree/class year, e.g., B.S. '15)

Areas of nursing experience

Confirmation that you align with the Christian values of Biola

Students share their area of nursing interest, and Anne matches interests as closely as possible. Thank you for supporting our future nurses!

What an unforgettable night we shared at the Museum of the Bible for Biola Goes to Washington! It was a beautiful evening of fellowship, worship, and learning, made even more special by having our Board of Trustees and alumni from across Maryland, Virginia, D.C., North Carolina, and Pennsylvania in the room.

We were profoundly encouraged by a keynote address from Os Guinness on Christ-centered transformation, followed by an incredible alumni panel that absolutely blessed everyone present. I want to give a special shout-out and honor to our panelists: Chelsea Rubio, Ian Spears, Clark Hedrick, Katie Watson, Heather Douglass, and Solomon Chen. Thank you all for representing Biola with such excellence, integrity, and grace!

Seeing so many generations of Biolans together reminded us of how vital local community is. We want to encourage all of our alumni in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas to actively connect and get to know one another. You are part of an incredible local network of leaders and believers; don't hesitate to reach out, build those friendships, and support each other in your professional and spiritual journeys!

The 2026 School of Education Master’s Banquet was one for the books!

There is something so inspiring about hearing graduates discuss their research firsthand. From the effects of standardized testing to the vital role of emotional care and new frameworks for math students, the brilliance in the room was undeniable.

It was a beautiful, teary-eyed celebration with proud parents and families; a true honor to be a part of.

Beyond the celebration, we had a great opportunity to connect with the Dean to discuss new ways to bridge the gap between our leadership and our alumni. We’re building a future where our graduates feel supported long after they walk across the stage.

The future of Education is looking bright, and I can’t wait to see where these incredible alumni go next!

This past Saturday, we gathered for our Biolans in Illinois event at Park Community Church Near North in Chicago. It was a great mix of our nearly 750 Biolans across the state, with alumni ranging from the Class of 1973 all the way to 2023, and even a current student in the room.

We were also joined by two admitted students and their families, which made the time even more meaningful as we look toward the next generation of Biolans. We had the opportunity to honor one of our Golden Eagles and spend time in real conversation about what alumni engagement in Illinois can continue to become.

We even had two alumni authors with us who brought copies of their books. There’s something special happening here, and we’re excited to keep building. Illinois has more ahead.

We had a wonderful day on Wednesday hosting another Graduation Fair at Biola University. Our Alumni Engagement team worked alongside partners from across the campus to provide a joyful festival for our graduating seniors, ensuring they feel the full support of the Biola community as they approach commencement.

It was a privilege to have alumni volunteers return to campus to support these students and present them with their alumni license plate frames. The day was filled with good cheer and a wonderful sense of connection between generations of Biola graduates.

We were also pleased to feature a special surprise: Justin White, from the class of 2018 and owner of Roosevelt Ice Cream, provided his craft ice cream for those who completed the event circuit. We saw a remarkable turnout and truly enjoyed the festive atmosphere.

Our sincere thanks go to the many offices and departments that contributed to this success, including our Advancement team and University Communications and Marketing. It takes a university-wide effort to celebrate our seniors so well.

Alumni,

Every year, the Graduation Fair serves as a major milestone where we celebrate our seniors as they officially transition into their "alumni-hood." It’s a high-energy day filled with everything they need to prepare for life after the tassel, including:

Picking up their official Alumni license plate frames

Securing their commencement regalia

Entering to win special prizes

Connecting with Graduate Programs and Career resources

Completing the First Destination Survey to help us support their next steps

We would love to have a group of you join us to help celebrate their hard work and welcome them into our community. If you’re interested in volunteering and supporting our Alumni Engagement team for a few hours, we’d love to have you!

Please let us know if you’re available to help, and we’ll get you all the details.
