✨ Sparrow Workshops Kick Off This Friday! ✨

Join us Friday, February 27 at Sparrow Academy from 8:45 to 10:15 AM for the first workshop in our new series: Calming Our Nervous System.

Enjoy a peaceful welcome with song and story, movement with the Triangle Bottle Game, watercolor lemniscate painting, a Positive Discipline “flipped lid” activity, and a meaningful discussion on how movement and art help children stay calm and regulated.

Fairy Tale Writing Class by Helga Conklin 🧚‍♀️

Our very own Sparrow Homeschool lead, Helga Conklin will be offering a writing class through , incorporating myths and fairy tales. It is open to parents, educators, and anyone interested in writing. Registration link in bio!

Class Description
Following the Celtic year, drawing on the phase of the moon, and pulling inspiration from the Celtic myth of The Oak and The Holly, we’ll write and share in this Writing Circle. Come share in Helga’s magic as a Wyrds Witch with this in person class. Practice your Writing Craft and experience your magic. Whether you are writing a story of any length or you’re jotting your thoughts in a journal, this vibrant writing circle is for you! For writers of all skill levels and ages.

This week our Chickadee Creek Kindergarten class has been hearing the story from the book - Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Millard. Today they made fry bread to eat with their stone soup! Some even enjoyed it with a drizzle of honey.

Sparrow Academy’s new Transitional Kindergarten class will open on Monday, September 15th. There are still spaces available! Sparrow’s TK program upholds a balanced routine that gives children the security to explore freely, confidently,
and joyfully.

If you know someone interested in a Waldorf-inspired TK program, please have them call 619-439-6327. There will be a registration and orientation meeting on Thursday, 9/11.

Spots Available at Sparrow! 

We have a few spots available in our seat-based program for Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grades. Families interested in their child attending any of these grades at Sparrow Academy, please fill out an application at sparrowschool.org.

Sparrow Academy classrooms fosters a love of learning, focus on community and collaboration, where curriculum is designed to stimulate creative thinking over use of digital technology. Class relationships are central to the educational experience, and students are encouraged to develop skills and capacities without fear, stress or pressure to conform.

Guided by the Core Principles of Public Waldorf Education, Sparrow Academy focuses on the whole child. We are dedicated to making our school environment a place where students can demonstrate success academically, socially and emotionally.

The Science of Reading: Join us Wednesday, December 11 at 5pm in Room D for a special talk on the Science of Reading. 

During our Science of Reading night, we will take a look at how our brains learn to read and why some students may struggle with this process. We’ll follow the progression of reading skills from pre-reading to reading to learn and engage in learning activities that you can use at home wherever your student is on their reading journey. This will be an interactive session lead by Miss Becca. 

Miss Becca has been teaching reading to young kids for a decade and finds great joy in watching the magic happen as students become proficient readers.

12/3/24 is Giving Tuesday and we are so grateful for our amazing Sparrow Academy community! This year’s Annual Giving campaign is focused on our goal to raise funds for facilities and the CUP project, which would enable Sparrow to continue to grow and serve TK through 8th grade students. Sparrow Academy is the only Waldorf-inspired public charter school providing access to free Waldorf education for TK-5th grade in San Diego. Your contributions help aid in our mission to provide all students with an appropriate and challenging educational experience in a respectful environment that fosters learning and growth as we continue to educate bold, independent thinkers.
