The quiet of summer has given way to the sounds of a school at work—laughter between friends, voices raised in song, lessons being taught, Scripture being recited, good questions being asked, and conversations continuing long after class has ended.

These ordinary sounds are part of something much greater.

Day by day, our students are being taught to listen carefully, think clearly, speak well, pursue what is true, and grow in wisdom. Not simply for the sake of knowing more, but that they might better know and love the God who made them and the world He has made.

We are especially grateful this year to welcome back familiar faces and receive new students, families, faculty, and staff into the life of The Terra Nova School.

There is much to learn, much to enjoy, and much good work ahead of us.

The first day is here.

The Terra Nova School is once again filled with the sound of students laughing, singing, teachers welcoming familiar faces, parents reconnecting, and new friendships beginning to take root.

But as we begin a new school year, we want our students to remember that education is never merely about what we know. It is about Whom we know, Whom we belong to, and what we are being formed to love.

Our theme for this year is Unashamed of the Gospel—a call to know the truth, love the truth, and stand firmly upon it in a world that desperately needs it.

We pray that our classrooms would be places of joyful learning, deep thinking, growing friendships, faithful discipleship, and increasing wonder at the goodness of God. May our students grow not only in wisdom and knowledge, but in courage—ready to speak of Christ without embarrassment, compromise, or fear.

Here’s to a new year of learning together, growing together, and fixing our eyes upon Christ.

A new school year doesn’t begin when students walk through the doors. It begins long before—with prayer, preparation, careful planning, and a shared vision for what we are called to cultivate.

This week, our Terra Nova School faculty gathered for Teacher Orientation, preparing not simply for schedules, lessons, and classrooms, but for the formation of students entrusted to our care.

Classical Christian education is deeply intentional. We consider not only what our students will learn, but how they will learn to think, reason, communicate, create, and grow in wisdom. Every detail—from curriculum and classroom rhythms to school culture and discipleship—is thoughtfully ordered toward that purpose.

And we do not undertake this work alone. Christian education flourishes through a strong partnership between school and home, as teachers come alongside parents in the education and formation of their children.

We are grateful for a faculty committed to excellence, families who entrust us with this important work, and the Lord who gives it all its meaning and purpose.

The classrooms are nearly ready. The teachers are prepared. And we’re looking forward to welcoming our students back next week for another year of learning, wonder, and growth—all for the glory of Christ!!

Students are not meant to be passive observers in the classroom. They are called to ask questions, wrestle alongside one another, interact with great ideas, and pursue truth under the guidance of teachers who faithfully disciple them.

This is one of the distinctives of a classical Christian education and a vision we are committed to cultivating at The Terra Nova School.

We hope our Terra Nova families are enjoying a wonderful and restful summer break! While we’re thankful for this season of rest, family time, and adventure, we certainly miss seeing our students and hearing their voices around campus.

Until they’re back, we wanted to share a fun moment from our last speech competition. This particular speech had everyone smiling, and it was simply too good not to share.

A school is only as strong as the men and women shaping its students each day.

At The Terra Nova School, our desire is not simply to place information before children, but to surround them with teachers who love the Lord Jesus, model godly character, and faithfully point their students toward truth.

We are grateful for the teachers who labor each day to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and a love for Christ in the hearts of our students.

At The Terra Nova School, our aim is not merely to fill minds with information, but to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and a love for Christ. We want students who can think clearly, speak truthfully, and recognize beauty in God’s world because they have been grounded in His truth.

Our prayer is that they would not simply know what they believe, but why they believe it—and learn to love that which is true, good, and beautiful.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

As the staff at The Terra Nova School, we will miss the daily joys that fill these halls far beyond academics alone. We will miss hearing their prayers, their thoughtful questions, their sudden “aha” moments when truth clicks, their singing echoing through the classrooms, their laughter between lessons, and the many small conversations that remind us these students are not just being educated, but shaped.

One student wrote in her booklet the name of a loved one she is praying would come to know God. Moments like that stay with you. They remind us that the Lord is at work in ways no test score could ever measure.

Yesterday was the last day of school, and if you asked some of the students—many were genuinely sad for it to end for the season. That says something beautiful about the kind of community that has been built here.

As summer break begins, our prayer is that this time away would be meaningful for our students and families. That there would be rest, growth, joyful memories made together, and continued faithfulness in the ordinary moments of home life. We are grateful for this school year and already look forward to what the Lord will do in the next one.

At The Terra Nova School, singing isn’t treated like a side activity or filler. It’s part of the culture of the school.

At our recent benefit concert, our Select Choir sang Psalm 148 with beauty, strength, and joy. Watching young people lift their voices together in praise to the King of Heaven is a reminder that Christian education is about far more than academics alone.

“Let them praise the name of the LORD: for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven.” Psalm 148:13
