The Journey and Adventure Studio Exhibition blew us all away! It’s clear that as they have built friendships and gotten to know each other, they have also been working hard academically! As we learned about each adventure hero, we learned about their special skills and saw the pride in themselves and their studio mates. The Journey Heroes dove deeper into self reflection so they could learn how to use their gifts to create a more collaborative experience! We are so proud! The heroes were also able to show us their badge tracking and their progress in their academic skills like writing, math, reading, and spelling. They were able to pin their new badges! We witnessed the heroes sign their studio contracts and learned more about how to keep each other accountable to what they have all agreed on. We ended watching their lip dub video to Count on Me where parents witnessed the connections and fun that are sure to take us through a great school year! Well done Heroes! Our first exhibition took place today! The Spark Studio put a special spin on Building the Tribe, using art to stitch and place every hero together! Friendship was the focus of the last weeks, including the how to be a good friend recipe: help others, kind words, nice actions, taking turns, respecting each other, cheering up and sharing! These heroes went above and beyond their art to explain their setback la and difficulties as well as celebrating their accomplishments and explaining their inspiration! They even got the parents involved to better understand the process of art and it was a very fun way to build connections! Our first field trip of the school year to The Plunge! We had tons of fun but even more so, we had an awesome time working together and helping each other! Our launch party to welcome in the new school year was incredible! We welcome back all the familiar faces as well as those new new families we can’t wait to get to know better! We spent the evening reminding ourselves about the Hero’s Journey we all take at Acton Academy, crossing the threshold as the entire family promises to participate in! For our final introduction, we have Mandy, the reason Acton Academy San Diego East exists! Mandy’s favorite title is a mom of three. She has a Master’s Degree in Education and has taught in both public and private settings for over eleven years. She is passionate about constantly improving as an educator and finding better, innovative ways to equip young people to thrive. When she came across Acton Academy, she knew she only had one choice–to start one for her children and for her community! She is on a mission to reinvent what education looks like for like-minded families in San Diego. She would love nothing more than for each young person to find and grow the unique gifts within them so they can better serve the people around them.
