Youth Involvement in Standards

With the passage of Senate Bill 23-008, Youth Involvement Education Standards Review, the Colorado Department of Education is accepting nominations and applications for Youth Advisors (ages 14-19) to the Colorado Academic Standards revision process and regional educator meetings for 2023-25.

Applications open on August 1, 2023, and close at 11:59 PM on August 25, 2023. Please see the Youth Involvement in Standards section below for more information.

Youth advisors must be:

Age 14-19

Enrolled in and attending or recently graduated from a Tribal or Colorado junior high, middle, or high school, including an online or charter school or approved facility school as defined in section 22-2-402, Colorado Revised Statutes; be participating in a nonpublic, home-based educational program; be participating in a high school equivalency examination program; or have obtained a high school diploma through successful completion of a high school equivalency examination, as defined in section 22-33-102 (8.5).
Nominations from small rural, rural and urban districts are encouraged.

Youth advisors to the standards review process serve a two-year term. They may serve more than one term. Commitment and active participation are critical. Most of the standards revision committee work is projected to occur between September 15 and November 17, 2023, and again during March 2024.
