It is amazing to see all of the people that are coming together to honor our late mother. Friends and family of hers and strangers who never knew her. Together we can inspire.

From the bottom of our hearts I want to thank everyone that has already liked the page and are expressing their love and support for Yaya, my beloved mother. We would not have established this scholarship in her honor had she not been the person and inspired so many people throughout her life.

We were fortunate to give two scholarships this year. I would also like to thank our first corporate donor, Ace Forwarding, Inc. Without your contributions we would not have been able to do everything we did this year.

We are looking forward to having an event in the future for people to get together, reminisce and celebrate Yaya.

Congratulations to Alejandra Callente of Juarez-Lincoln High School. She is one of our inaugural scholarship recipients.

Miss Callente competed for the Lady Huskies volleyball, track, and soccer teams. She is graduating with an incredible 3.6 Grade Point Average.

In her application, Miss Callente sites her involvement in sports as teaching her “team work, and how to stay on top of my game in the classroom”.

Miss Callente will be attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the fall.

La Joya ISD

Congratulations to Stefanie Solis of La Joya High School. She is one of our inaugural scholarship recipients.

Miss Solis is a four year letterman for the Lady Coyotes volleyball and softball teams. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and is graduating with an incredible 3.7 Grade Point Average and is ranked 7th in her class.

In her application, Miss Solis sites her involvement in sports as teaching her “dedication, work ethic, and leadership skills”.

Miss Solis will be attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the fall.

La Joya ISD

We are excited to announce the inaugural scholarship in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded to a female athlete who has exemplified the character to succeed as an athlete and as a student. Yaya believed that there was more to sports than just winning. She believed that sports were a building block of skills and traits that would allow a student athlete to become a better student, athlete, and person.

Through this scholarship we hope to assist a female athlete in their educational advancement. Mrs. Tamez encouraged her students to be the best person they could be, and the intent of this scholarship serves to encourage the same idea.
