We are bridging the global digital divide by bringing the online learning revolution offline.

Learning Equality is committed to enabling every person in the world to achieve a quality basic education, through supporting the creation and distribution of open educational resources, and facilitating their use inside and outside of classrooms around the world. Through this work, we aim to build a new, open, and fundamentally human-centered educational model, to develop skills that empower learners to fulfill their potential, in order to promote human flourishing.

🚀 Kolibri’s first AI-powered feature is here: resource recommendations!

In our latest Kolibri Studio release, content curators can now quickly get relevant learning materials recommended to them while building and aligning channels.

AI is becoming more and more common in well-connected education systems. Our focus? Making them work for low-resource, low-connectivity contexts so educators and learners aren’t left behind.

In this video, Learning Equality engineer Samson Akol walks through the feature.

🙏 Huge thanks to our engineering team, open-source contributors, and early supporter Google.org and collaborators like UNHCR, and Vodafone Foundation who helped make this possible.

AI fluency allows people to shape the world around them.

Learning Equality is working to build AI literacy in partnership with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, so communities can have agency over AI systems that affect their lives.

We’re developing needs-driven AI-powered tools that work offline, supporting real classrooms where internet access isn’t guaranteed. These tools help teachers prepare lessons faster, find resources more easily, and guide students’ individual learning needs in real time, while giving learners hands-on, scaffolded opportunities to understand, practice, and apply AI concepts. By combining guided learning materials with practical interaction, we’re supporting educators and students to build confidence, agency, and real-world AI competencies grounded in their local contexts.

When people gain the capacity to understand and shape technology, AI becomes public infrastructure that belongs to everyone, not just those with connectivity or technical privilege.

We’re excited to celebrate Jakub Komárek and his Summer of Code (GSoC) contributions to Kolibri, our open-source ecosystem of digital tools for teaching and learning without the internet.

This summer, Jakub began creating the Kolibri Community Library, an easy way for Kolibri Studio users to share the channels they create so other educators in the same region or language can quickly find and reuse them. This will help educators discover high-quality, curriculum-aligned, relevant open resources without having to start from scratch.

📹 In this video, Jakub shares more about his GSoC project.

Have you seen how learning continues even when the Internet stops?

Our open-source digital learning platform Kolibri, reaches offline classrooms, community centers, refugee camps, and correctional facilities around the world. Every time a device briefly connects, it drops a pin on our map, showing that learning is happening, even in the hardest-to-reach places.

Each pin represents:
📚 A teacher prepping lessons offline
🧑🏽‍🎓 A learner exploring at their own pace
🌍 A community investing in its future

This Giving Tuesday, you can help put more pins on the map📍

And thanks to a generous donor offering a match of up to $100K through December 31st, your gift will go twice as far toward supporting learners who need it most.
