"Learning Equality is not abstract. It shows up in a classroom in Pakistan where a deaf child is using their hands to tell you that it really matters." ๐คฒ
That's Sumaira Mian, Director of Philanthropy at Learning Equality.
In 2025, Sumaira visited Deaf Reach schools in Pakistan โ and watched students sign along with Kolibri in a classroom where access to education is far from guaranteed.
That moment brought everything home. Watch to hear her story. โถ๏ธ

Learning Equality
We are bridging the global digital divide by bringing the online learning revolution offline.
Learning Equality is committed to enabling every person in the world to achieve a quality basic education, through supporting the creation and distribution of open educational resources, and facilitating their use inside and outside of classrooms around the world. Through this work, we aim to build a new, open, and fundamentally human-centered educational model, to develop skills that empower learners to fulfill their potential, in order to promote human flourishing.
"All this time I was sitting in my house in India, staring at a screen, hoping this work was impacting learners โ but when you see it in person, you just realize." ๐

What if two mentors could train entrepreneurs in 60 villages, at the same time? ๐
That's exactly what Village Enterprise is doing in rural Africa through their SPRINT program, using Kolibri, Learning Equality's free, offline digital learning platform.
Before SPRINT, a mentor supported 60โ90 businesses a year. Now? 600.
Tablets live inside communities. If a breastfeeding mother steps out during training, she can come back and replay the whole lesson. No one gets left behind.
One cohort: 93% graduated above the poverty line. Overall reach: 10x what was possible before.

๐ Kolibriโs first AI-powered feature is here: resource recommendations!
In our latest Kolibri Studio release, content curators can now quickly get relevant learning materials recommended to them while building and aligning channels.
AI is becoming more and more common in well-connected education systems. Our focus? Making them work for low-resource, low-connectivity contexts so educators and learners arenโt left behind.
In this video, Learning Equality engineer Samson Akol walks through the feature.
๐ Huge thanks to our engineering team, open-source contributors, and early supporter Google.org and collaborators like UNHCR, and Vodafone Foundation who helped make this possible.
