Come meet brother Allyson Chan tonight at Professional Night! Allyson is a second-year Business Economics student who is interested in pursuing a career in accounting. She is currently a Tax Intern at EisnerAmper in La Jolla, and this summer, she will be working as an Audit Intern at KPMG in Santa Clara.

✦ When you first came to UCSD what was your intended industry of interest?
“Accounting!"

✦ How did DSP find/nurture your industry of interest?
“DSP has allowed me to speak to individuals who have experience in the accounting field, allowing me to gain valuable insight into the diverse career paths within it. The mentorship and assistance from older members have better prepared me for my personal journey in accounting. ”

✦ Any advice for prospects who are still exploring industries or having a hard time doing so?
“Don't be afraid to reach out and have a conversation with people who have experience in the field that you are interested in. Most people have also been at that point where they were exploring industries to find their passion, and they may have advice that can help you find yours.”

✦ Favorite Place Traveled?
“Switzerland!"

🪽INTERN SPOTLIGHT: ANGIE VO🪽

Meet brother Angie Vo! Angie is a third-year Cognitive Science major specializing in Design and Interaction and is minoring in Business. She’s currently pursuing product management with her position as a Product Management Intern at Sezzle but also has had experiences in marketing and product design.

✦ When you first came to UCSD what was your intended industry of interest?
“UI/UX Design”

✦ How did DSP find/nurture your industry of interest?
“Before I joined DSP, I had no idea what product management was or how versatile the role was. Talking to so many different bros with experience in the industry helped me realize that my career interests and goals were more suited for a role in product management. Since I made the switch, DSP has been such a great support system, and I'm always reaching out to bros for resume help, interview prep, and networking advice. I used to always hear how product management is a career that is difficult to "break into", but DSP gave me the confidence to just go for it.”

✦ Any advice for prospects who are still exploring industries or having a hard time doing so?
“It's never too late to switch your intended industry. If you discover another career path more exciting or more aligned with your career goals, go for it. I recommend talking to anyone else you know who is pursuing that industry and asking what inspired their choice. You can even message a working professional on LinkedIn and ask about their day-to-day or qualities one should have to succeed in their respective roles.”

“I wanted to join DSP to be a part of a community of people who inspire me and learn from different career paths. I saw DSP as an opportunity to become a stronger candidate in the professional world while also meeting new people with shared interests.”

“Going on a retreat with my class, or ice skating with them!”

“Get to know the brothers and other people coming out to recruitment. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with anyone because everyone is super friendly, and just be yourself 🙂.”

“I came to UCSD as a transfer international student and wanted to find a community of like-minded individuals who are driven and motivated to constantly grow.”

“ My favorite memory in DSP is last year’s banquet! We dressed up classy and had lots of wholesome moments.”

“Talk to as many bros as you can and most importantly, genuinely have fun! It will be an eye-opening experience in your college life!”
