We seek to provide a supportive climate where members can explore for themselves the richness and complexity of what it is to be fully human.

Center for Studies of the Person (CSP) provides a community for its members and the larger Person Centered Approach (PCA) world, where persons can connect with, encounter, and share with other PCA practitioners. We support both preserving Carl Rogers' essential Person Centered Approach and exploring how it may extend and flourish in our individualities and personal applications.

In Denmark, children between the ages of 6 and 16 take part in a unique weekly class called “klassens tid” or “class time.” Unlike traditional classes that focus on tests or grades, this time is dedicated to fostering kindness, empathy, and a deeper understanding of others. Children sit together in a safe space to talk openly about their feelings, practice listening to each other, and discuss ways to solve small problems before they turn into bigger issues. This initiative encourages children to reflect on their actions and learn how they impact others, creating a more inclusive and compassionate community.

The lessons go beyond human relationships. Danish schools emphasize the importance of caring for animals, reinforcing that empathy extends to all living things. From nurturing pets to understanding the needs of wildlife, students are taught to appreciate the world around them, fostering a sense of responsibility and respect for all creatures. By including animal welfare in their education, Denmark is ensuring that future generations not only value human connections but also have a deep respect for the natural world.

This innovative approach to education aligns perfectly with Curejoy's mission of holistic well-being—promoting not only physical health but mental and emotional wellness too. Empathy, kindness, and understanding are essential for a healthy life. Just like in Denmark, we can all take small steps toward creating more compassionate communities by adopting the same principles in our daily interactions. Whether through kindness to others or caring for our environment, every small act contributes to a healthier, more harmonious world. 🌱🐾

I don’t know anyone who hasn’t had a “hurricane” or two in their life—an experience of destruction that feels beyond redemption. In "Hurricane," Mary Oliver does what she does so well, drawing lessons from nature that can help keep hope alive even during dark days.

In 2004, a tornado tore through our neighborhood, damaging houses and toppling trees. No one was hurt, but property damage was extensive. At the time, I was struggling with serious depression. I found it nearly unbearable to look into our yard, where we lost a lovely maple and a towering white pine—the devastation "out there" mirrored so closely what was going on "in here."

But slowly, very slowly, the still-standing trees begin to recover, "pushing new leaves from their stubbed ends,” and new trees were planted. And slowly, very slowly, new life began to grow in me. For most of the past twenty years, the trees and I have come back to live our lives fully.

Given the state of our country at the moment, I read the last four lines of this poem as a prayer that we *collectively* will not only survive but thrive once the storm has passed. And so we will, IF we are open to what this mini-apocalypse has to teach us about caring for one another and rejecting mis-leaders who would divide us.

No amount of toxic and ignorant “White, Christian America First” talk can change the fact that we are profoundly interdependent with each other and folks around the world. The hurricane we’re in right now is human-made. Let’s human-stop it.
