This week, our classrooms brought the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. to life through rich, meaningful learning experiences. In TK/K/1, students conducted an experiment using multicolored eggs to demonstrate that while the shells may look different, the insides are the same. Our 2nd/3rd grade students studied the life of Dr. King and created artwork featuring his quotes alongside their own hopes for the future. In 4th/5th grade, students explored key events of the Civil Rights Movement, including Ruby Bridges, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the March on Washington. Working in groups, they read, took notes, and presented their learning to the class. It was heartwarming to see such deep engagement and thoughtful conversations around these important topics.

🎃 What a Wonderful Week!

From our Pumpkin Themed Day to our Halloween festivities, so many wonderful memories were made!

This time of year lends itself to creative projects for the kiddos. We started the week by designing haunted houses, where students used their imaginations to plan spooky scenes filled with ghosts, bats, and pumpkins. They worked carefully to include details and the results are both spooky and adorable!

This week, our beloved Ms. Kate put lots of hard work and time into creating and manning a lovely Book Fair. Each lunch time and after school, she brought eager students in to roam the book- filled shelves and bins of cool trinkets. Everyone had a terrific time. Thank you, Ms. Kate!

This week we held our Raccoon Council Elections, and for the first time in a while, we brought back the elections for executive roles. Students who ran for office were asked to give a speech in front of the entire elementary school—and they truly knocked it out of the park! 🎤👏

There was disappointment...but there were also handshakes, hugs, quiet congratulations, and words of encouragement. Yesterday, our students showed us all what it looks like to win—and lose—with dignity and kindness. They could have been the model for how elections should be everywhere! 💗

Our Garden program has officially started, led by Ms. Hope and Ms. Daniela. This wonderful program, generously funded by our own LHEF, offers students rich opportunities to explore both life sciences and math in a hands-on, engaging way.

The beauty and abundance in the garden are truly stunning — it's an inspiring space for learning and discovery!

This year we kicked off an Introduction to Spanish with an alumni- Pilar Carmona- as teacher! Students learned basic greetings, numbers and colors, and items around the classroom, with our bi-lingual students learning the spelling of these terms. We are happy to announce that Pilar will be returning next year to continue the learning! A hearty ¨thank you¨ goes out to our La Honda Educational Foundation
