Alumni Spotlight: Charis Beller
From the halls of Whittier Christian High School to the ranks of the United States Naval Academy, Charis continues to live out a life of excellence, leadership, and faith.

As she graduates and is commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy, Charis reflects on how WCHS helped prepare her for the challenges ahead. Majoring in Foreign Area Studies with a minor in Arabic, she will continue her journey in the fall as a Naval Flight Officer.

Her encouragement to current students:
“The foundation you build now matters more than you realize! The lessons, relationships, faith, and discipline developed at a Christian school, and personally, prepare you to lead with integrity wherever God may call you to step into. Stay faithful in the small things, work hard, and trust that God can use your story in incredible ways.”
The verse that has guided her since childhood is this: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

We are so proud of Charis and the example she is for the next generation of leaders, servants, and difference-makers.

Whittier Christian softball kept its postseason run rolling Saturday afternoon, going on the road and knocking off Warren 9-3 to move into the CIF-SS Quarterfinals. 🟥🟨⬜️🥎

The Heralds once again looked like the same team that rolled through league undefeated and captured the league championship earlier this season. WC jumped on the board immediately when Sofia Hernandez reached on an error, moved to third on a sacrifice fly from Rylee Cull and scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 in the first inning. The Heralds added two more in the second after Savannah Berry lined a single to left before Hernandez delivered a two-run single to push the lead to 3-0. Then in the third inning, Mia Camacho crushed a solo home run to center to extend the lead to 4-0 and give WC more momentum.

Warren answered in the bottom half of the third with a three-run homer to cut the lead to 4-3, but the Heralds responded immediately in the fourth. Hernandez ripped a two-run double to center, then Cull followed with an RBI single as WC stretched the lead back to 7-3. From there, Sofia Gonzalez settled back in and the defense locked things down the rest of the way.

WC added two more insurance runs late, including another RBI from Camacho and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Bella Perez. Defensively, the Heralds also turned a huge double play in the sixth inning to completely shut down Warren’s final push. Sofia Gonzalez went the distance in the circle, allowing just four hits while battling through pressure moments against a strong Warren lineup.

On to the quarterfinals! Go Heralds!

Whittier Christian softball opened the CIF-SS playoffs the same way this group handled league all season. Pressure, toughness and big swings in key moments. Fresh off an undefeated league championship run, the Heralds moved on to Round 2 with a 10-2 playoff win over Western Christian behind another balanced offensive attack and a steady complete-game effort from Sofia Gonzalez in the circle. 🟥🟨⬜️🥎

WC grabbed momentum in the third inning when Sofia Hernandez ripped a triple to right before Rylee Cull hammered a two-run home run to give the Heralds a 2-1 lead.

The Heralds kept rolling in the fourth. Hernandez lined an RBI double to center and Ali Plimpton followed with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 5-1. Then came the sixth inning where WC fully pulled away. Mia Camacho drove in two with a line-drive double, Plimpton added another RBI single, Jaelyn Ugalde ripped an RBI double and Savannah Berry finished the rally with an RBI triple as the Heralds pushed the lead to 10-2.

This lineup continues to be relentless top to bottom. WC finished with 11 hits and had contributions throughout the order.

Sofia Gonzalez gave the Heralds another tough outing in the circle, working all seven innings and limiting Western Christian to two runs. WC also came up with a key double play in the fifth inning to shut down a potential rally and keep momentum on the Herald side.

Player Highlights
-Rylee Cull finished 2-for-4 with a momentum-shifting two-run homer and scored twice.
-Mia Camacho drove in two runs including a huge sixth-inning double that helped break the game open.
-Sofia Hernandez collected a triple and double and scored twice
-Ali Plimpton delivered three RBIs including a key two-run single during WC’s fourth-inning surge.
-Savannah Berry ripped an RBI triple late while Jaelyn Ugalde added an RBI double as the Heralds piled on insurance runs.

As Derek Jeter once said, “You play for October.” The Heralds earned another chance to keep playing meaningful softball because of the work they put in long before the playoffs started.
