💙🎂 Happy Birthday, Mary! 🎂💙

Today is our Blessed Mother’s birthday! And to celebrate, our Kinder classes were treated to blue popsicles! Pre-K4 colored a special birthday cake coloring sheet!

💙 Why is the color blue associated with Mary?
(a little typology on this Tuesday!)

Several reasons abound, but we’ll list one beautiful one here. The book of Numbers indicates that a blue cloth covered the Ark of the Covenant during the time of the ancient Israelites. What did the Ark carry? The Word of God (10 Commandments), the Bread from Heaven (the manna), and a symbol of the priesthood (Aaron’s staff).

We know that Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant as she held within her the Divine Presence of God - Jesus Himself - the Word of God made flesh, the Bread of Life, and the Eternal High Priest!

⛪️ Yesterday at Mass we implemented our very first Sacristan Program at Sacred Heart Catholic School! It is aptly named The Little Flowers in honor of St. Therese who served as a sacristan herself during her time at her Carmelite convent. 🌹

Our young ladies will train under Ms. Linda Mihatsch to learn how to prepare the altar for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. What a gift to serve God in this beautiful way!

The term ‘Sacristan’ comes from the Latin word ‘sacer’ which means sacred. Sacristans are often behind the scene prayerful volunteers that bring to mind the words of Jesus when He said we should not do good works to gain accolades (Matthew 6:1). The Sacristan is charged with the care of the sacristy (a room within the church where sacred items, such as vestments and vessels, are stored. The sacristy serves as a preparation area before liturgical functions, ensuring that all necessary items are ready for Mass). The Sacristans are crucial to ensuring vessels are prepared for the Liturgy of the Eucharist therefore enhancing the quality of our liturgical celebrations. The chores of the Sacristan should be done in a prayerful manner keeping the sacristy a neat, quiet and meditative place. 🙏

🧑‍🔬 There are a lot of neat science projects happening at S❤️S! Mrs. Rubio’s Fourth Grade recently had a mini lesson on how the physical properties of clay can be manipulated! If you need to finish baking your child’s masterpiece, just sit it outside in the Texas heat! 🥵

Third Grade is at it again! 🧠👷‍♂️

Our students are building structures like the wise man in Jesus’ parable in Matthew Chapter 7! During Science, they have been observing and testing the properties of matter - size, color, shape, texture, and hardness - and putting that knowledge to use as they build towers and other structures to reach specific heights!

🔠 Mrs. Hughett’s Pre-K4 class has been learning the alphabet with it! Great job guys!

“Who is my neighbor?” ❤️

Hint: It’s not just the people you like…

Our Second Grade class recently learned about the parable of the Good Samaritan in Religion class. They read a ‘Reader’s Theater’ and acted out the story. Although the Samaritan and the Jewish man who was beaten would clearly have been enemies to one another, the Samaritan still stopped to take care of the man’s wounds and took him to an inn to be cared for.

Like this Good Samaritan, we are called to show love and mercy to all people, even to those we are at odds with or those who hate us. ❤️

What happens when water walks?? 🌊

Individually we are each one person, but when we work together as family and friends we can do great things! In Mrs. Oviedo’s class, Mrs. Sulik showed students how water can demonstrate that concept and turn single colors into a beautiful rainbow! 🌈
