Hello Acacia families!

Transition has kept busy this summer with a number of outings all over the community! Students ran businesses purchasing and selling ice cream (what better to beat the heat?) and pizza on separate occasions. They also visited and completed a scavenger hunt at Waterfall Glen, cruises the library for career resources, and had a rockin’ good time at Guitar Center!

On their work study days, students got valuable work experience at job sites: Egg Harbor Cafe, Hansen Farm, Central Decal, Firehouse Subs, Flagg Creek Golf Course, and Lifetime Fitness to name a few.

Waterfall Glenn
The Transition students had an incredible opportunity to care for caterpillars and observed one of nature's most amazing transformations. After observing each stage of the life cycle, they proudly released the butterflies into nature-a memorable experience for everyone!

Guitar Center
The students had an exciting visit to Guitar Center, where they explored different musical instruments, learned about career opportunities in the music industry, and spoke with staff about various jobs. It was a fun hands-on experience that combined career exploration with the joy of making music!

🌿 It has been an amazing summer filled with curiosity, creativity, teamwork, and growth. We are so proud of everything our students accomplished throughout ESY.

Outdoor Learning & Creative Fun
Learning didn't stop in the classroom! Students built lasting friendships while exploring the Nature Center during a scavenger hunt, playing volleyball, designing boats out of twigs and testing whether they would float in the creek, and growing their very own bean sprouts. They also expressed their creativity through drawing, watercolor painting, and nature journaling, capturing the beauty of the world around them.

As we celebrate an incredible summer, we're also excited to welcome new students to our growing school community. Acacia Academy is a Cognia Accredited private special education school serving students in grades 1–12, with a Transition Program for young adults ages 18–22 throughout the Chicago area.

Every student deserves an education designed for their unique strengths and goals. Through personalized instruction, therapeutic supports, and a nurturing environment, we empower neurodiverse learners to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Approved by the Illinois State Board of Education for out-of-district placement, Acacia Academy proudly partners with families and school districts across northern Illinois to help students reach their full potential.

Our graduates were celebrated on a beautiful, sunny day in the Nature Center, surrounded by the support and encouragement of family, friends, and our school community. We are deeply grateful to all the families who joined us for this special milestone and for the heartfelt words and well wishes that made the day even more meaningful.

🌿✨ Highlights from our Annual Nature Center Day at Acacia Academy! ✨🌿

What an incredible day of teamwork, growth, and community spirit! Students and staff came together to make a lasting impact on our beloved Nature Center — planting flowers, plants, and vegetables, preparing the 1/8-mile therapeutic walking path, organizing the outdoor sensory garden, and spreading fresh mulch around the flower beds. 🍅🌸🌱

The vegetable garden was a special focus this year, with students planting tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers — nurturing not only the garden, but also responsibility, collaboration, and pride in their work.

Since 1995, Acacia Academy’s Nature Center, a Certified Wildlife Habitat, has been built and cared for by students, families, volunteers, community groups, faculty, and friends. With every new season, the space continues to grow as new ideas and projects come to life.

Our two-acre outdoor learning environment offers students a unique opportunity to explore, discover, and learn surrounded by forests and natural beauty. These outdoor classrooms inspire focus, curiosity, and joy in learning every single day.
