Today was an incredible day for our 8th grade students at the Regional National History Day competition! 🎉

We had 24 students represent our school at East Carolina University, and they truly rose to the occasion. Their hard work, dedication, and passion for history were on full display in every project presented.

We are especially proud to share that two projects placed in the top three in their respective categories, earning a spot at the state competition in Greensboro this May! 👏

National History Day provides such a valuable opportunity for students to dive deep into historical topics while developing critical thinking, research, and analytical skills—the true work of historians.

Congratulations to all of our students for their outstanding efforts and achievements today. You’ve made us so proud! 💙📚

✒️ Stepping Back in Time! 🇺🇸

Today, our 8th grade students experienced a hands-on glimpse into the colonial period of America by learning how to write with feather quill pens.

They first practiced the proper way to hold a quill and then used it to write in cursive, just as students would have centuries ago.

This engaging activity helped bring history to life and gave students a deeper appreciation for the patience, skill, and craftsmanship required in colonial writing.

What a fantastic way to connect the past to the present!

🌎✨ 8th Grade Spotlight: Bringing History to Life! ✨🌎

Our 8th graders have been hard at work diving into the Age of Exploration, and their creativity has truly shined!

Students selected original images from the Lost Colony of Roanoke or Jamestown, recreated the artwork by hand, and then transformed their drawings into authentic-looking parchment paper using coffee staining techniques. ☕📜

This hands-on project helped students step into the shoes of early explorers and settlers while exploring how historical documents might have looked centuries ago. The results were incredible — detailed, artistic, and full of effort!

So proud of their craftsmanship, curiosity, and willingness to get a little messy for the sake of history! 👏🔥

🎭✨ What a Night in Sleepy Hollow! ✨🎭

Our 8th graders brought Washington Irving’s classic Legend of Sleepy Hollow to life last night in a sold-out performance of The Legend of Sleepy Haunted House, produced by the E. B. Frink History Lab! 👻

From eerie effects to unforgettable performances, the cast and crew amazed the audience and showed what creativity, teamwork, and talent can do. We’re so proud of our students for their hard work and dedication—what a fantastic way to celebrate history, storytelling, and the spooky season! 🎃

👏 A huge thank-you to everyone who came out to support our young performers and helped make the night such a success.
