Did you know veterinary social work is a growing area of social work practice?

Join the NASW-CA Social Work Occupational Council for a special virtual conversation with Taylor St. Onge, MSW, APSW, one of only five certified veterinary social workers in California.

Taylor, Veterinary Social Work Manager at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital, will take us inside this unique and emerging specialty and share how social workers support veterinary professionals, pet owners, and families navigating:

Grief and pet loss
Trauma and crisis
Compassion fatigue
End-of-life decision-making
The emotional complexities of the human-animal bond

We’ll also explore Taylor’s journey into veterinary social work, what the work looks like in practice, and how social workers interested in nontraditional career paths can learn more about this growing field.

Exploring Clinical Practice: Perspectives from LCSWs

Curious about a career in clinical practice? Join us for a virtual panel featuring Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) who will share their career journeys, discuss the realities of clinical practice, and offer insights into licensure and working in a variety of mental health settings.

This event is an opportunity to hear from experienced clinicians, learn about the many pathways in clinical social work, and hear panelists respond to questions.

Speaker information:

Rhonda Andrews, LCSW, RPT-S, is an Associate Professor and Director of Practicum Education at George Fox University. She is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, a Trust-Based Relational Intervention practitioner, and is certified in a form of equine assisted therapy - Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). She also has a private practice where she specializes in play therapy and the adoption triad.

Mr. Christopher "Isaiah" Foote, MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, clinical supervisor, educator, and founder of Lucid Veracities, PLLC, a private practice committed to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health services. With more than 10 years of experience in behavioral health, Isaiah has worked across community mental health, leadership, higher education, and private practice. His clinical work focuses on supporting men of color as they navigate attachment wounds, racial and complex trauma, emotional intelligence, identity development, relationships, and healthy masculinity.

Missi Brown, LCSW, has over a decade of experience providing innovative, client-centered mental health care. Currently, Missi is the founder and owner of a thriving private practice, MB Counseling LLC, where she provides comprehensive outpatient services to individuals and families. In addition to private practice work, Missi holds a contract with the local jail, delivering essential mental health services to incarcerated individuals and supporting rehabilitation efforts. She works with the La Grande Police Department and the La Grande Fire Department, providing peer support and wellness services to first responders.

This major milestone marks our commitment to providing high-quality social work education that prepares graduates to support individuals, families, and communities across Oregon and beyond. Developed to address critical workforce shortages in behavioral health, healthcare, and schools, this program is designed to strengthen social services specifically in rural and underserved areas.

"This achievement reflects years of dedication and collaboration among faculty, staff, university leadership, and community partners," says MSW Program Director, Christine Saladino.
