Dear friends and relatives,
Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day, a day to honor the original stewards of this land. Our nations have been here since time immemorial, and we are still here.
It is a day to sing the songs that were nearly silenced, to speak the languages of our grandmothers, and to remember that our stories are rooted in the soil, mountains, and rivers of this place.
It is also a day for reflection on our responsibility to the land. We do not own it, but we are responsible for protecting it for the generations yet to come. That responsibility includes honoring the treaties that remain the foundation of our sovereignty and holding space for the healing of our communities.
