A hearty congratulations to Madisen Morgan, this year's recipient of the Outstanding History Student Award. Madisen's senior capstone, a historiographic study of the Mexican Revolution, was a well-crafted and detailed analysis of the scholarship on this complex event in Mexico's history. EOU History faculty have enjoyed Madisen's presence in our courses over the last four years and wish her all the best in the future.

The History Program was well represented at the 2019 Spring Symposium! Congrats to all the seniors who shared their capstone projects.
Topics included the Thirty-Years' War as it relates to German identity, the legacy of Jim Crow in today's prison-industrial complex, and the machinations of the Portland Morals Squad in the early 20th century. A great day for learning!

The Eastern Oregon University campus was busy Saturday with excitement as students, faculty, friends and family gathered at the college’s Community Stadium to participate in, and witness, one of the largest classes the La Grande-based institution has ever graduated. This seems like an appropriate place to mention that for the second year in a row, a History major is the EOU Presidential Scholar! Congratulations to Cassie Jeffires, double major in History and Anthropology-Sociology. Her capstone research won a prestigious prize from Oregon Humanities, one which she shared with two other GRAD students from PSU. We are so happy to have had the opportunity to work with her.

With hard work and determination, Cassie Gray-Jeffries' dream of completing her college degree is coming true.
