OSU Agriculture Program at Eastern Oregon University

For many of our students, learning doesn’t stop in the summer.☀️

This is especially true for our student and ambassador, Amy Carpenter! She’s on track to graduate this spring with a double-major in OSU AG Sciences and EOU Ag Entrepreneurship. She makes every moment count toward her future, which is why she’s spending her summer as an agronomy intern with the OSU Extension Office in Union County. Here’s what she has to say about her experience:

“I have gained valuable insight into the important relationship between Extension agents and local growers and how collaboration and research can help producers improve and strengthen their operations.

One of the most rewarding experiences of my internship has been working with EcoRobotix on fall-planted Kentucky bluegrass trials. This opportunity introduced me to emerging agricultural technologies and demonstrated how precision agriculture can provide innovative solutions that benefit growers and improve production efficiency.

This internship has been an excellent opportunity to expand my knowledge and gain hands-on experience in agronomy, crop production and soil science. The experiences and skills I have gained this summer will be valuable as I continue pursuing my degree and future career in crop and soil science.”

Dr. Bryan Endress teaches students how these ecosystems work, the benefits they provide to people and wildlife, and how natural events like fire, drought, and grazing affect them. He also explores current challenges facing rangelands and the perspectives of various stakeholders.

We had a blast at EOU's final Mountaineer Day of the summer!

These are awesome opportunities for freshmen and transfer students to meet their peers, tour campus, and learn tips and tricks for success before fall term kicks off in September.

We enjoyed meeting two of our new Beavs, who will be joining our program next month. Can't wait to work with them and the rest of our new students! 🧡🖤

🌲FES 342: Forest Types of the Northwest🌲

In this 3-credit course taught by Dr. Ken Diebel, students will study forest cover types, species composition, and ecology. These are presented in relation to forestry, fire management, and wildlife management.

Dr. Diebel is passionate about sharing his love of forestry, and he always keeps class engaging by incorporating plenty of humor.

This week’s featured course in our fall lineup is ANS 121: Introduction to Animal Sciences. 🐮🐷🐐

ANS 121 examines the study of domestic animals, including nutrition, reproduction, genetics, behavior, anatomy, and physiology. Our animal sciences professor, Jenny Bartell, makes class fun and engaging with plenty of hands-on activities and field trips to local meat production facilities.
