What happens when child care doesn’t work?

A year ago, REV asked Union County parents to tell us about their experiences with child care. The answers were striking: 70% of surveyed parents said child care had caused them to miss an educational or professional opportunity.

Now, there’s an opportunity for parents across Oregon to add their experiences to the conversation.

The Oregon Values and Beliefs Center, ECONorthwest, and the Children’s Institute are conducting a statewide survey about child care costs, availability and access, and how they affect Oregon families economically.

If you’re a parent or guardian of a child under 13, consider taking the 10–15 minute survey. It’s available in English and Spanish, and you can enter a drawing for one of 30 $50 gift cards from an Oregon business.

Survey closes September 28.

A heartfelt thank you to the Wildhorse Foundation for their generous support for the Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute this year.

One high schooler said of their experience, "CCSI is a chance to disconnect from the daily bustle and truly connect with nature and form meaningful relationships. It gives people a chance to breathe, and learn in a pressure free environment. It takes education and builds a focus on hands-on engagement instead of on grades and worksheets. It reignites people's inner fascination for how the natural world works."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves! We are grateful to have the support of generous regional funders who sustain these programs and help us keep them affordable and accessible for rural families.
