A heartfelt thank you to the Wildhorse Foundation for their generous support for the Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute this year.

One high schooler said of their experience, "CCSI is a chance to disconnect from the daily bustle and truly connect with nature and form meaningful relationships. It gives people a chance to breathe, and learn in a pressure free environment. It takes education and builds a focus on hands-on engagement instead of on grades and worksheets. It reignites people's inner fascination for how the natural world works."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves! We are grateful to have the support of generous regional funders who sustain these programs and help us keep them affordable and accessible for rural families.

CCSI, as told by the students who lived it. 🎥 Sights, sounds, and (the best part) the food — watch Oregon high schoolers' take on their summer at Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute.

A huge thank you to the incredible students who spent a week exploring Cottonwood Canyon with curiosity and courage — and to the families who trusted us with their adventurers. 🌿 None of this happens without our dedicated staff, Eastern Oregon University faculty, and generous supporters like the Wildhorse Foundation. See you out there next year! (And thanks to James and K'Lynn for the excellent photos!)

Undergraduate research opportunity — remote, paid, meaningful.

The Institute for Natural Resources is seeking an undergraduate student for a summer–fall research position (mid/late June–October 2026, up to 20 hrs/week) focused on Oregon's water workforce. The project examines hiring needs and skill gaps, the role of higher education in developing water professionals, and pathways for students to enter the water sector.

Skills you'll gain: applied and qualitative research methods, data interpretation, project management, collaboration, and professional communication.

If you're interested, contact Lisa Gaines, [email protected], Institute for Natural Resources Director, by June 30, 2026.
