What would you ask your representative? KVFS 4th grade students got a chance to meet with Representative Johnson yesterday to continue to learn about state and local government. They had some great questions! Here is a glimpse of what was on their minds:
"Do you think water should stay clean for fishing?"
"Are you able to vote on laws and regulations about oceans and saving sharks?"
"Would you ever support a team of people who go out and collect garbage from the forest?"
"Can you help save endangered plants"
"Why is diesel $7.69 in Milwaukee?"
Thank you Representative Johnson for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit and answer questions from KVFS and La Farge students!

It’s the Autumn Equinox! It’s a great time to study the changes in nature happening all around us. Ask your KVFS student what they’ve been noticing. 🍁

When you find a painted turtle in the school parking lot call in the forest schoolers! Our 4th graders happily rescued this small turtle from the hot asphalt parking lot and gently carried it to a nearby creek where we often play! Good luck Ms. DillyDally, we wish you well!

We are often asked: Do they just play outside?
The answer is yes….and…
There are warm, sheltered places for indoor focused learning AND everyday we get out for extended time in nature. We know so much growth happens in nature. At KVFS we notice and celebrate children’s growth in comprehensive and ‘big picture’ ways because we know they’ll need it to well rounded flexible adults in the world they will inherit. And we celebrate and honor childhood for all the magic and healthy development it offers!

Julia and Jonel had the pleasure of sitting down with Julie Tomaro on the Folk School Radio Hour on WDRT! It was a wide ranging discussion covering what is unique about forest schooling within a public school model, what we've learned in the 5 years since opening and what kids and parents love about forest school! If you are interested in some history or just learning more about our school this is a great listen for you!
