A great day learning at Ashley Furniture Industries in Arcadia! President Kirk Bennett and members of the Western team toured the company’s automation, 3D printing, casegoods, assembly, distribution, and upholstery areas.

Ashley team members shared how the company has changed during their time there, including how automation can help reduce physical strain for workers. The robotics in the assembly areas were especially impressive!

We’re grateful to Ashley Furniture for the warm welcome and to Ron Wanek for his generous donation to create Western’s Wanek Center of Innovation. That support helps our programs reflect changes in industry and prepare students for the workplace.

Under the guidance of Landscape Horticulture instructor David Lein, our Western students teamed up with young learners from the YWCA Childcare Program to plant a new Quaking Aspen tree on the east side of the Kumm Center!

Together, students and preschoolers explored tree facts, inspected the root system, and worked side by side to backfill the soil and spread mulch.

Western Technical College has been proud to be designated a Tree Campus Higher Education (formerly Tree Campus USA) school since 2010, nurturing both our campus green space and the next generation of environmental stewards!
