ICYMI: In January, the La Crosse Central Debate team achieved for the first time in our 120+ year history: we won the state championship in Varsity Policy debate, the most rigorous and in-depth form of debate offered for high schoolers. Santi and Atticus have written their names in Central Debate history, but they couldn't have done it without all of the debaters who came before them and taught them, and all of the community members who have supported us.
Santi and Atticus also qualified for the National Speech & Debate Association national tournament in Richmond, Virginia, in June. However, again the school district has ended funding to support students who qualify to national competitions--so we're left fundraising everything to get there.
So: it's time again for our spring fundraiser. Thanks as always to the La Crosse Public Education Foundation for supporting us through the Support-A-School program. Please consider a donation through this crowdfunding website: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/supportaschool/display/centraldebate
We've been blessed in the past with generous support across our debate community and local support in La Crosse, so even a small contribution will go a long way to getting these students to an opportunity to show their stuff on the national level!
La Crosse Central has a long and proud tradition of debate that dates back to the Lincoln-Douglas Debating Society, founded at La Crosse High School in 1904. In January, Central Debate won the Wisconsin State Debate Championship in varsity policy debate.
