Dear friends,

It's with tremendous sadness that we share the news that Dr. Bob Hetzel, Vice Chancellor Emeritus for Administration and Finance, passed away August 27, 2026. During his 17 years at UWL, Dr. Hetzel led the institution through challenging financial times while also garnering big wins for the campus, including a new student union, the building of an athletics fieldhouse, and the development and funding of the Prairie Springs Science Center. Dr. Hetzel also was generous with his time and, for years, taught the university finance course in the SAA masters program. Many of you, undoubtedly, had him as an instructor and learned not only about finance and budgeting but also about his love for higher education, students, and, UWL.

We hope you'll join us in honoring his life and legacy. Rest in peace, Dr. Bob.

SAA is proud to present Dr. Tracy R. Peterson, 2026 graduate of the Ed.D. Program! Tracy is a citizen of the Diné (Navajo) Nation and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa. He serves as Director of Student Transitions and ILEAD in the College of Engineering at Penn State University, where he leads initiatives that support student engagement, academic success, and the retention of underrepresented students, including those transitioning from Commonwealth campuses.

SAA is proud to present Rikki Klassy, 2026 graduate of the M.S.Ed. Program! Rikki lives in Stoughton, WI, and after a career spanning engineering, math instruction, and health care education, currently works as a Clinical Placement Coordinator at the School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her graduate studies, enriched by a study abroad experience in Germany that broadened her understanding of student experiences across cultures, deepened her commitment to advocating for non‑traditional students and elevating student stories through narrative approaches. Rikki is incredibly grateful for the support of her husband Keith and kids Konnor and Lydia, family, friends, and faculty!
