A new chapter begins as our school communities come together!

It’s official.

The School District of La Crosse Board of Education has approved names for two new elementary schools:

⭐️ Hogan Elementary School (Emerson + Spence)
⭐️ Pammel Creek Elementary School (State Road + Hintgen)

These names come after months of input from students, staff, families, and community members. Each school formed committees, gathered ideas, and worked together to narrow down options before bringing forward final recommendations.

Thank you to everyone who shared their voice and helped shape these new school communities. This is an exciting step forward for our students.

Hintgen Families it is Book Fair Time- this year during conferences will be your time to check it out. We will not have it open during the school day due to PTO taking it over for us this year! A name is more than words on a building. It reflects identity, belonging, and pride—and now, thanks to strong community support during the referendum, we have a rare opportunity to help shape two new school communities.

At the Hogan site, Emerson and Spence Elementary communities will come together in a new consolidated school. At the State Road site, Hintgen and State Road Elementary communities will unite in the renovated building. Naming these schools gives students, families, staff, and community members a chance to help intentionally build a shared identity and strengthen a sense of belonging.

We are asking for names that are timeless, inclusive, connected to our community, and appropriate for long-term use. Names should not honor living individuals.

All submitted ideas will be added to the brainstorming process. Each school community will work collaboratively to narrow suggestions to three potential names, along with the current site name, and forward those recommendations to the School Board.

By policy, the School Board serves as the final decision-maker.
The surveys are open through February 12, 2026, and the naming process and final selection are expected to be completed by April.

Site selection opens Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. Families can choose up to three preferred school sites, with final placements shared by mid-April.

This fall, more 4-year-olds in La Crosse will be able to start their school journey with a full day of care, connection, and confidence.

All-Day 4K Preschool is expanding to every La Crosse elementary school, giving our littlest learners more time to learn, play, make friends, and feel comfortable in a school setting.

In our classrooms, kids feel safe, supported, and encouraged to be themselves. They explore through play, build early reading and math skills, and enjoy art, music, and PE with their very first school community.
