Next up in our Buildings of Campus series: Morris Hall, the third building constructed on UWL's campus!

Opened in January 1940, Morris Hall was originally known as the "Training School." It served as an elementary school where local children attended classes while future teachers gained valuable hands-on experience through classroom observation and practice.

In 1973, the building was renamed in honor of Thomas Morris, the Wisconsin state senator who sponsored the legislation establishing the La Crosse State Normal School, now UWL. Today, Morris Hall is home to the School of Education, continuing its long tradition of preparing future educators and supporting learning.

Alumni Spotlight: Jared Tollas ('23)

Congratulations to UWL alumnus Jared Tollas on building a career in campus recreation at Texas Tech University!

Jared earned his bachelor's degree in Recreation Management from UWL in 2023. During his time at UWL, Jared discovered his passion for recreation management through hands-on learning and the support of mentors, including his manager at the UWL REC, who played a key role in shaping his growth as a student.

Today, Jared serves as a program manager at Texas Tech’s University Recreation, where he leads student employees, coaches the university’s Unified Basketball team, and works to make the recreation center the best it can be. He's also pursuing a master's degree in Higher Education Administration, continuing to grow as a leader while helping students find their own passions.

We're proud to celebrate Jared and all he's accomplished!

Nearly 50 years of friendship, with UWL at the heart of where it all began. ❤️

Today, we had the pleasure of spending time with members of the Inverrary Group, whose friendships and annual tradition have spanned nearly five decades.

The group spent the morning reconnecting, touring campus, seeing new additions such as the Eagle L sculpture and revisiting places that brought back memories from their time at UWL. We loved having you back on campus and hope to see you again soon!

Make a gift of $50 or more to the UWL Fund to receive a limited-edition UWL dog bandana (while supplies last). Use the “Dog Days” link in our bio (or visit uwlax.edu/foundation/give-now/uwl-fund-quarterly-ask/) and be sure to leave the comment “bandana” in the gift form.
