Alumni Spotlight: Drew Devine ’04



From leaving La Crosse nearly every fall weekend to work on Monday Night Football to producing some of the biggest events in sports television, Drew Devine ’04 has built an impressive career behind the scenes.

After graduating from UWL with a marketing degree, Drew moved to New York City to work at ABC Sports’ Manhattan headquarters. He later joined NBC, working at the NFL (including 6 Super Bowls), Olympics, Formula 1, Premier League and more. Along the way, he has earned 10 Sports Emmy Awards.

Today, Drew works as a freelance producer. Most recently, he traveled to Melbourne, Australia, to produce an NFL game for Netflix.

A proud UWL alumnus, Drew continues to carry his UWL experience with him throughout his career. We’re proud of our alumni and all they accomplish! 🦅

We are concluding our series by introducing David Diedrich (’84) to the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation Board!

Dave had a 34-year career in information technology. He began his career at Oscar Mayer and went on to become Chief Technology Officer of Kraft Foods before retiring from the same role at Mondelēz International.

During his career, Dave’s global IT team was recognized for innovation and excellence in project management. His team was highlighted by Apple and The Wall Street Journal for being the first Fortune 500 company to introduce iPhones to employees, keeping the company engaged with where consumers were heading. His team also led the company in employee engagement scores under his leadership.

Dave is a computer science graduate of UW-La Crosse and received his MBA from UW-Madison. He and his wife, Holly, split their time between Chicago and Naples, Florida. They enjoy spending time with their four grandchildren, traveling and staying active.

We’re excited to welcome Dave to the Foundation Board and look forward to the experience he brings to UWL. 🦅

This week, we’re introducing John O’Connor (’79), a new member of the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation Board!

John graduated from UW-La Crosse in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in business and finance. He went on to build a 45-year career in banking and the vehicle fleet management industry, culminating in 27 years as president and co-owner of Velcor Leasing Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin.

John has also been involved in his community, serving on his Parish Council and as president of the Madison West High School Athletic Booster Association. He has volunteered and coordinated golf outings for the Wisconsin Council of the Blind, Agrace Hospice in Madison and the National Association of Fleet Administrators.

Recently retired, John and his wife, Kathy Pandl O’Connor (’80), spend most of their time in Madison and winters in Bonita Springs, Florida. They enjoy spending time with their twins, Joe and Meghan, their spouses and their four grandchildren, as well as golfing, traveling, biking and playing pickleball. Their son, Joe (’14), is also a UWL graduate!

We’re excited to welcome John to the Foundation Board and grateful for his continued connection to UWL. 🦅

The UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation, in collaboration with the Chancellor’s Cabinet, invites nominations for an honorary doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Eligible candidates have shown outstanding service to humanity globally, nationally or locally. Consideration is given to achievements and service that have enhanced lives through contributions to scholarship or through artistic talent and creativity, as well as evidence of dedication to the Wisconsin Idea, broadly construed.

Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis. Nominations received by December 15 will be included in the pool of candidates considered beginning in the next academic year.

Please note, submission of a nomination does not ensure its successful outcome; therefore, it is of utmost importance that potential candidates not be informed that a nomination is under consideration.
