On Thursday, April 30, students in our Nature Rx class had the opportunity to put learning about The Nature Place into action. Collectively, we donated over 20 hours of pulling weeds, tilling, fence painting, and garden bed preparation. One of our sweetest rewards, beyond giving back to our community, was the discovery of a nearby nest of baby bunnies! Thank you Amber and The Nature Place team for a wonderful morning!

Today in REC 390 we learned about the difference between management and leadership, and the importance of supervisors building skills in both areas. To illustrate this in action, students built spaghetti water towers and then reflected on the leadership and management qualities each team member exhibited throughout the process.

Be on the lookout next year when signing up for REC classes for this new class being offered!

Using UWL’s R/V Prairie Springs, our Recreation Management students worked with extraordinary mentors from the Izaak Walton League to discover a wealth of natural and culture resources on Hintgen Island. Hintgen Island is in the middle of the Mississippi River, just south of La Crosse’s Municipal Boat Launch. Their project is to develop interpretive signage and an interpretive program that helps connect people to this wonderful upper Mississippi resource. Visit the island this summer if you happen to be on the river!
