Making giant blocks to build giant towers!!

While the end of summer is always a little sad, it's also a little bit of a relief. I enjoy summer activities, but they're a little stressful, too. This year, I did one of my traditions with one of the kids (the only one that was interested). If I'm taking care of a child that enjoys crafting and is old enough to participate, I love doing one big summer craft instead of 1,000 papers going home.

Past projects have been a treehouse and a fairy hill/treehouse/dojo. This year, in our brainstorming session, she said she just wanted people. "They can have a house inside a hill and a tree, but they're people, not fairies. No fairies!" And then I got corrected all summer because I kept slipping and calling it a fairy hill. 🤣🤣

This project ended up being a lesson in perseverance for both of us - we tried many different crafting mediums and it looks very different than either of us had planned, but it came together just in time to still be considered a summer project!

Looked at this page yesterday, and while I knew it had been a long time between updates, I didn't realize it had been since February 2020! Gee, wonder why? 🤔😬😭 So! I'm going to try to start posting again! This is the 4H project I helped my nephew make (he's here with the babysitting kids most days). Anyone guess what inspired him??

I have been the caregiver who lets the child jump in the puddle. I have also been the one that pulls the child around it 🤷. Regardless, it's a good example of what he's talking about, and I wish more kids got to experience the messiness of unrestricted curiosity.

The 4yo girl I take care of wants to take her bear (Sally) everywhere, but Sally isn't allowed at school. So I suggested we make her a house she can stay in while the little girl is at school. We had so much fun making this! I may have gone a little overboard... 🤷😂

We made pictures out of shapes last week. The shape monster didn't look anything like I thought it would when I suggested it, but she loved making it, and it had so many different shapes!

Every activity I got out for this kiddo today ended like this - I may have intended we do a sorting activity, but I'll be flexible!
