I have such mixed emotions to share we are expecting another lovely little in June ☺️ That also means that I will have to put a hiatus on Doula Babe for a while.

I was so drawn to becoming a postpartum doula for a number of reasons, but a large one was to be connected to women during a time when I feel so many need care and support. I will be truly missing this work while I am switching focus to my growing family and the changes that will abound during the next year!

Thank you to everyone for all the support during the first year and a half of Doula Babe, especially my dear friend Rachel at . I am excited to be working on the last part of becoming a certified postpartum doula, and I hope to continue assisting mamas again when the time is right ❤️

Love,

Josie

To all sleep-deprived parents: If you're struggling with your baby's sleep schedule, a postpartum doula can be a game-changer!

Postpartum doulas can help babies sleep better. They provide personalized tips and techniques to establish a healthy sleep routine. They create solutions that work for your family's unique needs, from bedtime routines to sleep training methods at the appropriate age.

Beyond the practical help, they offer emotional support, so you can navigate sleepless nights with confidence and recognize you are never alone. There are millions of other parents up in the wee hours of the morning around the world 🫠😅 This too shall pass!

Team up with a postpartum doula for more restful nights and happier days 💤

Prioritizing Postpartum Mental Health

Hey mamas and papas!
Remember, amidst the beautiful chaos of parenthood, your mental health matters too. Taking time for self-care isn't selfish – it's essential. Whether it's a quiet moment with a book or a walk in nature, recharge for both you and your little one. Let's break the stigma and support each other on this journey. You're not alone! ✨🩵

Be advised: You may succumb to a deep slumber after a few pages 💤

I live for these neck embraces, these faces that resemble my husband and I in childhood, these sunny days.

My little family is what powers me to do what I love every day: helping OTHER families! Whether that’s through the end of life in my “9 to 5” job, or through the beginning of life in this part-time passion.

I am constantly humbled 🌼

If you are looking for companionship, guidance, and support in postpartum, there are other mothers, parents, and professionals that are eager to help, be it a playgroup, a postpartum doula, a postpartum therapist, etc. Do whatever feels right for you ❤️

My friend Rachel created a beautiful resource for postpartum mothers in . I wrote a short piece on what called me to become a postpartum doula, a title I’ve recently earned, am growing in, yet feel in some other life I’ve always been.

Also, because Rachel is so good at design, we (she) made a beautiful tee to help remind mothers how POWERFUL they truly are! 💪🏽✨

The absolute JOY to watch your postpartum baby grow!

The journey of support is a winding road, and at each turn there is so much that is learned and absorbed, so much that is felt and foundations that are built upon.

This process has been such a sweet gift and a reminder that time is fleeting and all phases of life are temporary, especially the tough, sleepless nights with a newborn!

Happy world doula week to all my fellow doulas! ✨

I didn’t quite know what this journey would entail for me, I just knew it felt right. What I didn’t expect was it to overflow my cup and inspire me as much as it has to work towards doulas becoming the norm in our society and culture.

We were not meant to go through life alone, especially during huge life transitions and transformations. Let’s bring the village back ❤️

One of the biggest changes to life as you know it is the demand of infant feeding after baby is born. Whether it’s breastfeeding or bottle feeding, the round-the-clock nature of nourishing your baby can be a shock.

A postpartum doula is trained in breastfeeding support and can help ease any fears or doubts when it comes to timing, latch, volume, and satiety.

One of my goals with every postpartum mother is to support a feeding session outside of the comfort of their home. Regardless of the awkward positioning or the impossible nursing cover, the triumph felt after these new experiences is the essence of what I yearn for my postpartum parents to feel 🤩

For a postpartum doula, these beautiful moments are plentiful but fleeting. In these quiet minutes, I tried to soak up everything around me - the laughter between me and my postpartum mother, the twinkles in baby’s eyes, the energy in the room - a time capsule now resting in my sweetest memories.

Being a doula means being NEAR the birthing parent: to Nurture, Educate, Assess, and Refer when needed. My postpartum mother said to me the other night, “I’m just so glad you’re here.” I wasn’t doing anything in particular in that moment - but I knew we felt the same human connection, our little woman village of two, toddling around the house, and feeling the supportive bond built over the last 8 weeks of her baby’s beautiful life. Being near her - it was enough.

Last visit with my postpartum mother today! It’s such a bittersweet feeling to close this chapter and reflect on all the learning, growth, and successes these new parents and myself have had over the last 8 weeks! What an honor to witness the transformation and to give some extra support and love to this trio ❤️

Not a self portrait but man have I been in this situation!

On the blog now - Dropping Mom Guilt 👋

I know it’s far easier said than done, but maybe as we start this new year, we can learn to hold ourselves with more gentle hands and see ourselves through a more accepting lens.
