As we soak up summer, we’re taking a moment to look back on some of the joyful memories that wrapped up our school year, like this special day shared by Mrs. Juliene Wall.

Before school let out, our juniors had a truly memorable day centered around literacy, leadership, and connection. The morning began with a visit to the town library, where each student thoughtfully selected a children’s book “just right for a 4-year-old.” Back at school, Mrs. Wall gave a presentation on the importance of early childhood literacy, and the students were all in! They practiced reading to one another, focusing on expression, asking thoughtful questions, and turning each book into a mini performance.

Inspired and energized, they collaborated to create their very own children’s book—“The ‘Cow’boys and the Geese.” It’s not in stores (yet!), but we’re convinced it’s destined for bestseller status!

The day culminated with a heartwarming visit to the Elementary school, where students read aloud to Mrs. Jungquist’s and Mrs. Zimmerman’s Kindergarten classes. Marlin Bralens delivered a delightful, dramatic reading of the junior class’s book, and everyone joined together for a circle time song with Mrs. Wall—big and little students alike, learning and laughing side by side.

Thank you, Mrs. Wall, for capturing the spirit of this day so beautifully. It was a shining example of student engagement, collaboration, and the joyful power of literacy.

La Conner School District is proud to celebrate the launch of the Swinomish Lushootseed language app, an inspiring collaboration between the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Thornton Media, and LCSD. This powerful educational tool honors the preservation and teaching of the Lushootseed language and expands learning beyond the classroom walls.

We are grateful to work alongside Swinomish language educators Kyle and Olivia Bailey, who have been instrumental in making Lushootseed learning more accessible to students and the greater community.

LA CONNER — In an effort to make learning the Lushootseed language more accessible, a free language app — called Swinomish Lushootseed — was developed by Thornton Media in collaboration

Wrapped in Gratitude! At the recent Swinomish Education Dinner, we were deeply honored to be wrapped in beautiful Native blankets by the Swinomish Tribal Community as part of our retirement recognition from La Conner School District.

This powerful gesture carries deep meaning, symbolizing respect, honor, admiration, and the warmth of community. To be embraced in this way is to feel seen, valued, and uplifted by a legacy much greater than ourselves.

Blanket-gifting is a sacred tradition that marks life passages and offers protection, comfort, and well wishes. As we step into retirement, we carry with us the love, strength, and ancestral wisdom these blankets represent.

We are profoundly grateful to have served this community and to have been trusted in this work. Thank you, Swinomish, for this extraordinary and humbling tribute.
