This year’s Drama 3/4 Showcase production, “Fiddler on the Roof”, grew directly out of the class curriculum. After studying plays, musicals, and theatre history from 1925 to 1968, students helped choose a piece that felt both artistically meaningful and well-suited to the ensemble. Every student performed while also taking on major production responsibilities, from stage management and design to costumes and choreography, with additional student crew members, musicians, and faculty actors joining the process.

“This production was a beautiful example of what can happen when students are trusted with meaningful artistic responsibility... I was incredibly proud of the way they supported one another, challenged themselves, and built a production that felt both deeply personal and collectively owned,” said Director Adam Quinn.

This spring, students in from 7th to 9th grade took audiences aboard the Orient Express for a bold retelling of Agatha Christie’s classic mystery. With spare staging, multimedia elements, and a touch of theatrical fog, the production brought a fresh energy to the season’s final play. Thirty actors filled the stage with murder, mystery, mayhem, and even a dance break or two, while a dedicated backstage crew helped bring the world of the show to life. It was a spirited close to the theatre season and a joyful reminder of what can happen when the Flintridge Prep community comes together in support of student storytelling.

Last Friday, physics moved from the classroom to the pool for the Physics Regatta. Working in teams, students designed and built cardboard boats, applying concepts like buoyancy, density, force, drag, and stability before putting their creations to the ultimate test: racing across the pool.

Some boats sped ahead, some captains sank with their ship, but every team learned something from the process. The event captured what it means to leave no question unasked through testing ideas and discovering how curiosity can turn cardboard into a joyful, hands-on learning experience.

Meet Kate Tucci ‘07! Ms. Tucci is a science faculty member and leadership coordinator who brings a special perspective to Flintridge Prep as both an alumna and a teacher. Today, she sat down with students to get real and share honest advice about curiosity, confidence, and making the most of the Flintridge Prep experience.

With so many subjects, activities, and opportunities to explore, Ms. Tucci encourages students to step outside their comfort zones and try things that spark their curiosity. In her conversation with Nick S. she highlights the importance of saying “1 don’t know” and with Ruth L., who loves performing arts, Ms. Tucci talks about how exploring broad interests helps students find their true passions-and understand the why behind their interests.

This spring, the Flintridge Prep stage was a place of fairytales and barrier-breaking melodies, celebrating a full semester of creative work in both curricular classes and extracurricular groups.

In “Once Upon a Dream,” the Spring Dance Concert took a narrative approach, inviting the audience into a fairytale storybook where classic tales were explored from unexpected angles. From the 8th Grade Dance ensemble’s "The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party" to the Hip Hop Club’s "March of Hearts," every ensemble showed tremendous growth, venturing "beyond the castle walls" to meet challenges with determination and grace. Soloist seniors also performed their last dances on stage.

The Spring Music Concert, “Hope Triumphant,” centered on themes of optimism and triumph over adversity. Our musicians highlighted composers who broke race and gender barriers, including William Grant Still and Amy Beach. The grand finale, "Somebody to Love," featured a powerful collaboration of the combined orchestras and choirs.

These students have shown incredible bravery in sharing stories through the performing arts. A huge thank you to faculty members Molly Mattei, Alisha Mullally, Clara Valenzuela, and Reuben Allen for their vision and leadership! Congratulations to all our performers on a spectacular season!
