Mr. Hemmerich’s 6th grade STEM students put their engineering skills to the test today with the Egg Drop Challenge! Pictured are our engineers who passed the challenge. V

After designing and testing their prototypes on Friday, students used what they learned to make improvements before today’s final drop. The goal? Design a structure that could protect an egg from impact—and hopefully avoid a messy landing!

This challenge was a great example of the engineering design process in action: design, build, test, evaluate, improve, and try again. Our students had to think creatively, solve problems, and learn from their initial results.

Hands-on learning, teamwork, and a little bit of controlled chaos—that’s STEM at Maple Crest!

Mr. Hemmerich’s Stem 7 classes recently made their own airplanes from a kit. Students had to hypothesize and use engineering principles to calculate the best position of the wings for optimal flight. Students were then tasked with calculating the velocity of their planes by using tape measures for distance and stopwatches for time. A truly innovative unit into Engineering and Mathematics.

Voices of 9/11

In Ms. McClure’s 6th grade ELA class on Friday, students used MagicSchool AI to explore Voices of 9/11. Students interacted with simulated historical perspectives of people who may have experienced September 11, 2001, including firefighters, first responders, World Trade Center employees, survivors, and New York City residents.

By asking thoughtful questions, students explored how a person’s location, occupation, and circumstances shaped their experience that day. This activity gave students a meaningful way to connect history with the human stories behind it.

Mr. Hahn’s 8th grade English classes participated in a “Survivor” reward style activity. Students had to read a variety of short stories and identify theme, main idea and details to support their answers. The students would use the correct answers to find a combination to a lock. Once they had the correct combination, the students would open the container and receive their reward. A great way to enjoy learning while focusing on important ELA concepts.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NIGHT!

What a great night to be a Maple Crest Wildkat!

Tonight, our Maple Crest STEM Middle School band members and football players had the opportunity to take the field and be recognized at halftime during the Kokomo High School football game!

We are so proud of these students and loved seeing them represent Maple Crest under the Friday night lights! Experiences like tonight give our students a glimpse of what’s ahead and remind them that they are an important part of the Wildkat family! 🐾

A huge thank you to Kokomo High School for welcoming and recognizing our middle school students!

Mr. Hemmerichs Stem 6 class recently gave class presentations over an invasive species of their choice in the United States. Students had to research resources to complete their presentation. This combined science concepts and technology to give students a truly interactive experience while also refining their research skills.

Super proud of Zeke and his thoughtfulness to help fellow Maple Crest students.

Zeke earned 50 points in our UP™ Program — two and a half weeks of showing up and doing the work.

He could have spent every point on himself. Instead, he spent all of it on hygiene items for the pantry at Maple Crest, so other kids never have to go without.

That's what the Way of Champions looks like: earn it, then give it away.

Students in Mrs. Willis’ Science classes have been putting their engineering skills to the test with some awesome hands-on challenges!

🔹 6th graders took on the challenge of designing and building their own bridges, using problem-solving, creativity, and engineering concepts to bring their designs to life.

🔹 7th graders raised the challenge to new heights by designing and building Ferris wheels!

These projects are a great example of what STEM learning looks like at Maple Crest — students aren’t just learning concepts; they’re designing, building, testing, problem-solving, and learning from the process.

We love seeing our students think like engineers and turn their ideas into something they can actually create!

STEM Learning in Action at Maple Crest!

Mr. Hemmerich’s STEM 7 students recently put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building their own catapults!

Students used the engineering design process to create, test, and refine catapults with one goal in mind: launch a marble the farthest distance possible!

But the learning didn’t stop with engineering. Students also incorporated math skills by analyzing their launch data and calculating the mean, median, mode, and range of their results.

This is what STEM learning is all about—designing, building, testing, problem-solving, and applying skills across multiple subjects in a hands-on way.

🎒Keep Bags at Home: Backpacks are not permitted. Please leave bags larger than 12" x 12" x 6" at home. All bags are subject to inspection prior to event entry.

🧑‍🧒 Adults Accompany Kids: All children, including elementary & middle school students, must be accompanied by an adult for the entire event.

🗣️Team Spirit: Direct your energy towards our team! Wildkats appreciate the motivation from the fans. Please refrain from running throughout our facilities & enjoy events with your fellow fans in the stands.

⚠️ Stay in Designated Areas: Remember to stay off the fields & courts. Children are not permitted to play in concession areas or on adjacent fields.
