🌎SEASON OPENER: KHS Debate takes on World Schools competition! Imagine spending weeks digging into every angle of a complex issue, only to walk into a room and find out moments before speaking whether you have to argue FOR it or AGAINST it.

Now add in impromptu rounds: receiving an unfamiliar topic right at the tournament, working together as a team to build an entire case, and stepping up to deliver a structured argument without relying on prepared speeches.

That is World Schools Debate, and on Saturday, our Wildkat Debate team kicked off their season doing exactly that!

For their prepared rounds, our Wildkats tackled a major real-world question: whether high school students should be encouraged to pursue alternatives to a traditional college degree. They researched, prepared, and defended arguments from both sides of the issue. In their impromptu rounds, they relied strictly on their own knowledge and logic to build cases on complex topics, including whether metropolitan areas should ban cars.

What makes Saturday even more impressive? Five of our six competitors were competing as novices!

From the opening gavel to the final round, our KHS students held their own against tough competition and proudly represented our Kokomo community.

🏊‍♂️🚴‍♀️🐾 POOLS, PEDALS, PAWS, & PURE ENERGY! The Mini Wildkat TRY-athlon was tiny paws to mighty claws in action!

The event by the numbers:
🏅 100+ young athletes in grades K–5 took on the challenge to TRY and crossed the finish line!

🐾 25+ KHS student-athletes —representing our Cross Country, Track & Field, & Katfish Swim teams —volunteered on the course, pacing, guiding, and encouraging our elementary participants through every single leg of the course.

🔥 100+ miles collectively swam, biked, and run by our high school volunteers right alongside the participants.

KHS coaches who are 💯dedicated, gave their time and leadership to keep every wave running safely and smoothly.

Thank you to each young athlete, all the families, our Wildkat student volunteers, and KHS coaches & staff, who together made this such a fun, memorable experience for our community!

SENIORS WIN! Homecoming week kicked off, and our KHS Class of 2027 left zero doubt on the turf!🏆

Two weeks ago, most of the girls on these flag football teams had never played a down of organized football.

With our KHS Varsity Football players trading their pads for clipboards to coach each of the class teams, the senior squad prepared, executed, and powered through the bracket—taking on the freshmen in round one and battling past the juniors in the championship final to bring home the Homecoming flag football trophy!

Between quadruple handoffs, big stops, and clutch flag pulls, the seniors relied on steady teamwork and great energy down the stretch.

🎙️😸Up in the press box, KHS Sports Information Director Dean Hockney leaned into the fun atmosphere. With more than 1,000 games behind the microphone, Hockney stepped away from his usual play-by-play style to take a few lighthearted, creative liberties that brought plenty of smiles to the stadium. When his observation of “a lot of running for not a lot of yards” came through the speakers, the seniors took the moment in stride and answered on the field—proving they could run the ball and finding their way in for the score.

Classmates supporting classmates, incredible energy in the stands, and lasting memories from Homecoming week.

🇺🇸⛳️Our KHS Girls Golf team competed in the 3rd annual High School Girls Invitational at Leaning Tree Golf Course near Grissom Air Reserve Base. Before teeing off, teams paused for a meaningful ceremony honoring the events of September 11, 2001. Our student-athletes had the unique privilege of receiving their scorecards directly from 2nd Lt. Lana Gascon—who promotes to 1st Lt. in just two days!

Lt. Gascon has served our country for 12 years, initially in military medicine (including a deployment to Germany during COVID) before transitioning to the Air Force Reserve. Today, she is stationed right here at Grissom with the 434th Air Refueling Wing, piloting the massive KC-135 Stratotanker—an aircraft with a max takeoff weight of 322,500 pounds that delivers crucial aerial refueling to the Air Force, Navy, Marines, and allied nations across the globe.

Each golfer had the honor of personally thanking Lt. Gascon for her service and dedication.

Thank you to Lt. Gascon, Leaning Tree Golf Course, and our fellow competitors and coaches for making this such a memorable event.

🏅 Congratulations to our Varsity and JV medalists on their strong performances, and to each of our student-athletes for their competitive focus throughout the invitational! Way to represent, Lady Kats! ❤️💙

Coordinated by our KHS Girls League, this event not only brings our Wildkat community together for an unforgettable night, but also gives back—with a portion of the proceeds directly benefiting Riley Hospital for Children.
