Tonight is the night! KHS invites the entire community to the 2nd Annual Black History Expo from 6-8 PM. While this marks the second year the event has been held in the evening for the public, this tradition of excellence is now in its ninth year.
What began in 2018 as a student-initiated "Black History Live Museum" during the school day has continued to evolve. Even when the world went remote in 2021, the program stayed strong with a virtual showcase. Last year, the event expanded into an evening Expo to better connect our students with the wider Kokomo community. It is a wonderful opportunity to see the unique works & talents of our KHS Wildkats.
Join us for this FREE, family-friendly event at KHS:

Four of our students along with educator, Lisa Herring are participating in the Civil Rights Journey sponsored by Simon Youth Foundation. In two days, they have flown from Indy to Atlanta, enjoyed dinner with students and staff from 6 other S*F schools, travelled to Birmingham, visited the historic 16th Street Baptist Church, spent time with Sarah Collins Rudolph, the sole survivor of the bombing of the church, travelled to Selma where they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge, heard from Dr. Lynda Blackmon Lowery who was one of 600 demonstrators that marched on "Bloody Sunday" on March 7, 1965. The students were able to walk a short distance in her footsteps, enjoyed a Southern meal at Martha's Place Buffet, and yes even stopped at a Buc-ees. It's only been 2 days. We are so excited to see what Koriyah, Ariel, Avery, Alleja, and Mrs. Herring get to explore and learn about next. Seeing and hearing about history from the very people that were there . Thank you S*F! *FmeansGraduation

Ms. Jones and her Veterinary Science class at the Kokomo Area Career Center hosted some of our students from Mrs. Herring’s Science class for a little fun today. They traveled from McKinley and helped build a few of our wildlife habitat houses. They worked as a team, and completed several different types of boxes. Some students chose to create a play mat as enrichment for our bunnies. Our new girl, Daisy, loved her activity mat filled with carrots!
Thanks for having us and allowing us to hang out with you! Thank you again Ms. Jones! *FmeansGraduation

So much hands-on learning in your science classes this fall. Our students have completed Acceleration Labs, Free Fall Labs, and Rock Cycle Labs. Even Rango participated in the Acceleration Labs! On top of that, our Luna Moth has completed its cycle. Thank you Mrs. Herring for all that you do with our students! *FmeansGraduation

One of the excited things that happened in August was having Rango, our school pet, back in our lives! The students and staff were so shocked to see how much he grew over the summer. If you ever visit McKinley make sure to stop and say hi to Rango, our bearded dragon. *FmeansGraduation

Mrs. Herring aka Miss Frizzle and her students have been very busy during the month of August studying the life cycle of a Luna Moth, frogs and their eggs, birdwatching and identify bird sounds, finding and identifying moths outside, completing STEM projects and the list goes on and on. Never a dull moment in our science classes. *FmeansGraduation
