Magnolia Concepts families came together for an evening of connection before our first day. The parents bonded over a shared vision of childhood while the kids built block towers, played with LEGOs, colored, played the floor is lava, and began building relationships of their own.

A microschool is not simply a traditional school with fewer students. It begins with a different question: What kind of environment helps this child learn well?

For some children, that means a smaller group, more flexibility, strong relationships, and learning that makes room for their individual strengths and interests.

Traditional school is the right fit for many families. Homeschooling is right for others. Microschools offer another option—one that brings together the freedom of homeschooling with the consistent community many children need.

That is what we are building at Magnolia Concepts: a place where children are known, families remain part of the learning process, and education feels personal again.

A child can be bright, curious, and capable and still struggle in an environment that expects every child to learn the same way, at the same pace, on the same schedule.

Sometimes they need fewer distractions. More movement. A smaller group. More time.

Something they can touch, build, or explore. Sometimes they simply need to be known well enough for someone to notice what helps.
When the environment changes, a child may finally be able to show us what was there all along.

Playing in a creek turned into a lesson about geology and the power of water. We collected rocks in different colors, shapes, and textures, then talked about where they came from and how moving water slowly wears away rough edges and reshapes the land.

One of the greatest freedoms of homeschooling is realizing that the world itself can be our classroom.

While visiting Cousin Kara, who volunteers at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Aquarium, Maggie learned about the creatures that live within our aquatic ecosystems and how those ecosystems are connected. She observed, asked questions, and learned from someone she loves—without a worksheet or test in sight.

Meaningful learning is bigger than four walls. It happens through relationships, exploration, and the freedom to follow a child’s curiosity wherever it leads.

Sometimes that leads to a book. Sometimes it leads outside. And sometimes it leads all the way to the aquarium. 🌊🐢🐟

We’ve become so accustomed to learning looking a certain way that we sometimes miss it when it’s happening right in front of us.
It’s in the cardboard structure that collapses three times before finally standing. The muddy investigation that begins with, “What is that?” The colors mixed just to see what happens. The enormous painting created without instructions—or a right answer.
Play is not what children do when the learning is finished. Play is where some of their deepest learning begins.

You chose homeschooling—but you don’t have to do it alone.

Magnolia Concepts gives children ages 4–8 three days each week to learn, create, explore, and build genuine friendships—while your family keeps the flexibility that made you choose homeschooling in the first place.

Our small-cohort, project-based program meets in Farragut on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00–2:30.
