In 2B, our children have been exploring a collection of loose parts, transforming simple materials into meaningful stories through imagination and creativity. As we listened closely, one of our friends shared her thinking, revealing the many possibilities she discovered through open-ended play. These moments remind us that children are capable, competent learners who construct knowledge through exploration, wonder, and expression.

INF II: Our babies engaged in indoor gross motor play as they explored and crawled through a tunnel. This simple experience sparked curiosity, confidence, and problem-solving as they navigated the enclosed space at their own pace.

As the babies moved through the tunnel, they experimented with their bodies in space, developing balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and strength. Some of them eagerly crawled through multiple times, while others observed first before deciding to explore. Each baby approached the experience in their own unique way, demonstrating the Reggio Emilia belief that children are capable, competent learners who construct knowledge through hands-on experiences.

The tunnel became more than just a piece of equipmentโ€”it transformed into a pathway for discovery, imagination, and self-expression. Through movement and exploration, the babies built confidence, took manageable risks, and celebrated their accomplishments.

The new environment -The tunnel- acted as the third teacher, inviting our young ๐Ÿงญ to wonder, explore, and learn.โ€ What a novel experience for our new group! ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Our PS1 learners explored shapes through collage this week! Using paper, glue, and markers by practicing their fine motor skills and creating their own unique designs. Experiences like these help three-year-olds strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, develop hand-eye coordination, and build the foundational skills needed for future tasks like drawing and writing. Open-ended invitations like as such give children opportunities to experiment, make choices, and learn through play!

๐Ÿ”” The SWAG SQUAD Interest Group: Rube Goldberg Machinesโ€œ ๐Ÿ””Today, our engineers and inventors were excited to gain access to an even larger collection of loose parts as they continued exploring the world of Rube Goldberg machines! The challenge was simple: RING A BELL". The catch? Make it as complicated as possible in a short amount of time. The csmpers, experimented with cause and effect, tested theories, revised their designs, and collaborated with peers as they carefully connected one action to the next. Each machine became a unique expression of creativity, problem-solving, and persistence.
Through trial and error, the group discovered that sometimes the most interesting learning happens when things donโ€™t work the first time. Every adjustment sparked new ideas and deeper thinking about motion, force, and sequencing.
We loved watching the children transform everyday loose parts into elaborate chain reactions, proving that imagination and curiosity are powerful tools for learning.

Friends in Infant 1B explored translucent shapes on the light table, discovering the beauty of light, color, and perspective. As they layered, sorted, and arranged the materials, they engaged in meaningful inquiry, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. Through exploration and conversation, children constructed knowledge, expressed their ideas, and experienced the joy of discoveryโ€”hallmarks of the Reggio Emilia approach.
At Morning Star Child Development Center, our environment serves as the third teacher, inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Last week, in Morning Star Atelier, toddler III young artists ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽจ explored identity, creativity, and self-expression through the use of loose parts and open-ended materials. Inspired by a photograph of a face, they thoughtfully selected yarn, stones, and other materials to represent hair, eyes, noses, and unique facial features.
The children used their imaginations to transform simple materials into meaningful works of art, demonstrating that creativity is not only seen in the final product but also in the process of discovery, problem-solving, and joyful expression. In the Atelierโ€™s Reggio-inspired environment, every material became a language for learning, and every toddler became a unique artist, storyteller, and thinker. The curiosity in their faces told beautiful stories of wonder, individuality, and creativity.๐Ÿ™‚

A pattern provocation invited our friends from PS3 to explore, create, and communicate through a beautiful transient art experience. Using open-ended materials, the children enthusiastically designed patterns, shared ideas, negotiated space and materials, and expressed their thinking with peers. The excitement was contagious as they discovered new ways to arrange, compare, and extend patterns while collaborating with one another.
This experience highlighted the hundred languages of children, honoring their creativity, problem-solving, and ability to make meaning through hands-on exploration. The transient nature of the artwork encouraged risk-taking, flexibility, and joyful learning as children revisited and redesigned their creations throughout the process.

WATER PLAY: PART 2/2
๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐ŸŒžA splash, a smile, a sunny dayโ€”new adventures came our way! ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŒž

Today, was the first Water Play Day for our YOUNGER groups, and it was wonderful to watch the children explore at their OWN pace. Some of our toddlers were hesitant at FIRST, carefully observing the water and their friends before deciding to join in. With growing confidence and curiosity, many S๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚N discovered the JOY of splashing, pouring, and playing.

In our Reggio Emilia-inspired environment, we value these moments of exploration and discovery, recognizing that every child learns and engages in their OWN unique way. What a fun and memorable first water play experience! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’™
