The pair talk about how their collaborative book project, "Appalachian Plants: In the Garden, In the Yard, and In the Wild" came together and the true significance of plants in the region.

We are so excited to be partnering with Ijams Nature Center for their weekly storytime! Join us on Saturday to hear from Mona Martin Batchelor's forthcoming book and do some tree-inspired crafts!

Join us for a very special storytime this Saturday, 9/19 from 10:00 - 12:00 when Ijams welcomes children’s author Mona Martin Batchelor. Batchelor will read from her new book, Nora T and the Champion Tree, published by UTK Press. Families will get the chance to meet the author, participate in tree-themed crafts and activities, and purchase signed copies of the book one week in advance of its official release.

About the Book

Nora T Singleton, the main character of this chapter book for young readers, is 11 years old and curious about everything under the sun. Luckily, her family (mostly) encourages her. One summer, when Nora T gets curious about the trees on her grandparents’ property, her Gran helps her nominate an enormous tulip poplar tree for the Tennessee Champion Tree program. During the process, Nora T learns a lot about trees, the environment, activism, and patience!

Bring a blanket or chair, a favorite snack, or just yourself. Parking is $5 per vehicle, or FREE if you're an Ijams member!

RSVP is not required but is helpful in case of cancellation due to inclement weather.

Hello from the TASL Conference in Murfreesboro, TN! UTP marketing manager Walt Evans, pictured here with author Mona Martin Batchelor, is representing the press at the TN Association of School Librarians’ annual conference!

This conference is always a great way to show our range of titles to school librarians from across the state and connect with other book-lovers. This year we are promoting Batchelor’s forthcoming book “Nora T and the Champion Tree” and selling (early) copies to attendees!
