Alex Haley, born in Henning, Tennessee, is a Pulitzer Prize winning author best known for his book "Roots," in which he traces his origins back to Africa. At SHADES we continue to work to support children and families in our community through virtual learning, activities and emotional support. Our mission of empowering happy kids with skills for life is even more crucial during this time of social distancing, school closure, social isolation and sometimes-overwhelming moments of whole-family management. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services like ours that play a significant role in the care and support of our communities.
